“Perfect location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

My friend and I stayed at the Dersaadet over the Easter weekend and just loved its old world charm, it's fabulous staff and it's wonderful location. We were made to feel so very welcome and nothing was too much trouble.

I chose a hotel that on paper looked different and although the hotel did not match my expectations 100% my stay of 5 nights there was enjoyable mainly due to the attentive and service-minded staff.
I am glad we didn't order the hotel taxi coming in as getting through passport control took 2 hours (BE WARNED AND PREPARED!) as it would have been stressful thinking of the taxi waiting there not knowing when we would be ready to drive. There were plenty of taxis and the cost was about TL45 ($20) and took about 30 minutes. The one problem is that taxi drivers there do not use GPS so have a map with you showing the hotel location and keep the hotel telephone number handy as the driver may well need to call for directions. As we left very early in the morning we took the hotel car which cost Euros20 but saved a lot of bother.
We were greeted in reception and were offered a delicious apple tea. The room was not as big as expected and the neighbourhood view described by the hotel was misleading as all rooms had windows with a view across the street. To underline a special view then the hotel must offer a special view.
The room was furnished to give an old impression and there was adequate wardrobe, desk and a large-size comfortable bed but only one chair so TV had to be watched from the bed. (5 TV channels included CNN, BBC and Eurosport). The bathroom was modern and well-equipped with hair dryer, complementary shampoo, body lotion, etc. There was room internet and A/C which we didn't use but had an open window instead. There was very little outside noise and almost non-existent traffic at night.
The breakfast buffet was on the roof terrace with a panorama view of Istanbul and was a perfect start to the day. There was a good choice of food and drinks and the service was excellent. You could choose between indoor tables or outdoors but it was a bit early in the year so we sat indoors. The roof terrace later in the day served as a quiet place to read or watch the passing ships or local seabirds.
The location was perfect as it took only 10 minutes to stroll to the main tourist attractions in Sultanahmet: the Blue Mosque, Haga Sofia Mosque, Topkapi Museum, beautiful parks and the Hop-on-hop-off buses' end station for touring the city.
In addition the area around the hotel provided a wide choice of reasonably priced restaurants serving everything from fresh fish to tender meat dishes and of course humus with lavasj! ( a thin crispy pita-like bread).
All the staff were friendly and gave excellent help and advice!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a VIEW not neighbourhood view!

We recently stayed two nights in the Sultan's Penthouse and two nights in a superior sea view room with our nine month old baby. The location, facilities and service of the hotel were excellent and we were made feel most welcome. The hotel is close to all the attractions in Sultan Ahmet but tucked away from the major pedestrian and motor ways which meant we could have quiet when we needed it. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace provided a great range of options for both baby and us. We will definitely be recommending the Otel Dersaadet to our family and friends and will stay here again when next we visit Istanbul.

Room Tip: The superior sea view room was ok for two nights with a baby (porta cot) but you would need more spa...

Dersaadet Hotel exceeded our expectations. The location is ideal for a first-time visitor, in a beautiful old Ottoman-style structure just a few blocks from the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Arastra Bazaar and Hagia Sophia. After our long flight, we were greeted by a helpful guest staff and ushered into the lobby, where we were offered apple tea and Turkish delight as our bags were brought upstairs. The lobby, like the rest of the hotel, has a slightly-understated old-fashioned elegance. Our room was large, with a four-poster bed, Turkish rugs, and a well-supplied modern bathroom with a generous tub.

The rooftop terrace is a delight, with both indoor and outdoor seating affording a sprawling view of both the Blue Mosque and Sea of Marmara. A full Turkish breakfast is included, with an assortment of cheeses, olives, eggs, vegetables, fruits, breads, yogurt and some more familiar western offerings. It's also a wonderful place for evening drinks.

This is not a luxury hotel, although there are certainly some nice touches. It's a small, clean facility with some nice cultural touches.

Our few complaints were that the bed was a little bit ... uhh ... squeaky, and the concierge had run out of maps at the time we stayed. Some might balk at some minor street noise, and the early-morning call-to-prayer. But that's kind of what you have to expect booking a downtown hotel in an Islamic country.

Right from the moment of booking the room, the staff of The Dersaadet Hotel provided exemplary service. My emails prior to arrival were answered quickly and thoroughly and were always helpful. Pick-up at the airport was easy and super convenient. In a sea of drivers with signs, our driver was front and center in the crowd with our name clearly visible. He whisked us away from the mayhem quickly and comfortably, a welcome relief after a long, overnight flight from the US. On arrival at the hotel, Yilmaz was amazing right from the start. He eased us right in and had us escorted up to our room with a minimum of fuss. (I recommend booking the Sultan Penthouse Suite if it's available. It's gorgeous, well-kept, beautifully appointed and has an easily accessible, private balcony with views of the Marmara Sea.) The room was immaculately cleaned every day, and requests for special accommodations were happily met. Yilmaz was always cheerful, friendly, and super knowledgeable, able to assist with questions or making reservations for events, etc. We loved seeing him each day and being able to share a little of our day's adventures with him. The breakfast area on the roof was lovely and always ready to go right on time each morning. We really enjoyed starting our morning each day up there. The hotel is right next to the Blue Mosque and Arasta Bazaar, which is a nice plus. There are various shops on the block, including a dry cleaner and small bodega/grocery with 'luxury' items like chips, cookies, beer and cigarettes, in addition to the necessary bottled water. In sum: We stayed for 10 days and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The Dersaadet is wonderful and provides the perfect launching pad to get the most out of your trip to Istanbul. Tip: guests are told not to drink the tap water, so make sure you stay hydrated by drinking lots of water provided in the minibar in the room and/or by buying water at the convenient bodega on the corner, which is cheaper. If you use the minibar, keep track of what you use in order to expedite check out.

Room Tip: Rooms are sized and priced to accommodate traveler's with a whole range of budgets and needs - f...

The service made this place so enjoyable. Such a friendly staff. Fairly prices. Wonderful location. You are in the middle of the city so expect noises. But worth any noise interruption:) Wonderful experience!
