“a piece of heaven for a single female traveller”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2009

I really liked the hotel. I was a single female traveller and felt extremely safe and comfortable in this hotel. The staff is very polite and helpful. The room was very clean and furniture nice and quite ergonomic. I liked the paper slippers and plastic flowers in the (beautiful) bathroom. I also liked the design of the hotel - old greco-roman. I didn't mind the thin walls, it made me feel safe. The bed was soft and linen was adorable, cool and fresh on the skin (crispy textile). My room didn't have a view, but the view from the breakfast lounge was astonishing - mosques and the sea. The breakfast was superb, I liked the fresh bread (although some of the tourists didn't use the kitchen towel when they grabbed to slice it). It is also possible to eat on a small terrace (two tables for four). I would highly recommend this hotel to a single female friend.

Friendly hotel with staff always pleased to assist. We had a room overlooking the Blue Mosque and fantastic views. Beds extremely comfortable and lovely crisp linen. Breakfast buffet style with good choice and lovely fresh bread. Would highly recommend and only a couple of minutes walk from tram stop and within easy walking distance of Blue Mosque and palace.

We heartily recommend the Nena hotel for your stay in Istanbul!
It is nicely situated in Sultanahmet, close to the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia - in fact from the rooftop restaurant you have a beautiful view on these two landmarks of Istanbul.
More importantly, the hotel has outstanding and very friendly staff, extremely helpful in many ways, e.g. advising us on the transport in and around Istanbul, searching information and places on internet.
The room service is excellent, it is the place to be to celebrate your birthday - as we found out. Breakfast is very good, not only with respect to the view, but also in the variety and quality of food.
The room was kept very clean and tidy by the friendly cleaning ladies.
The only negative point I can mention is that the room was relatively small - but no problem, since we were out most of the time.

great location, within very easy stroll of Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern and Aya Sofia as well as the excellent trams. We had a deluxe room (room 401)which was right below the restaurant and our wall was common to the restaurant stairway. As the floors and hallways are uncarpeted our room became extremely noisy from the patrons coming and going. We could also hear every clink of cutlery from breakfast preparation time to end of night and every conversation. Not so good. Our bed was a pile of rocks - the mattress is too thin for the bed base. We walked extensively each day and would wake up aching from our rock bed. There is no individual temperature control so if the hotel is being heated then you can't switch to cooling. Consequently our room was rather hot and uncomfortable. We left our balcony door open as much as possible. As this door was below the restaurant deck it also allowed much more noise into our room and smoke from the interminable smoking machines who stood about on the deck. The staff were very nice and attentive although one got quite snippy with us when we complained about the heat in our room. Still, generally they were of a very high standard. The breakfast is probably more suited to Europeans. We had one yoghurt to choose from. One hot dish of scrambled egg (burnt beyond eating one day and not replaced) and some sausages cooked in a tomato sauce. There were sugary cereals and one mueslie sort of thing. Some sliced orange and grapefruit and fruitsalad. The rest were salads and breads and some cake slices. There is no toast. It's OK but not as advertised in their publicity. The rooms are probably about the normal size for this kind of hotel, our deluxe room was reasonable and we could move around without bumping into each other but the furnishings are very old , tired and shabby. The stupid bedhead has the light switched set into it so when you move your pillow it turns the lights on and off, a real nuisance. And the TV is a tiny old set, too small to watch from the bed and very poor sound quality. We were out of our room each day all day sightseeing but we didn't look forward to returning each day. It was really just "somewhere to stay" not a pleasurable place to spend time.

although the flight has been delayed nearly an hour, the hotel driver was still waiting for us in front of the exit gate with his smiley face. after having a little city tour, i and my girlfriend reached the hotel. the staff behaved very friendly to us; while we were waiting for our room, they offered us hot drinks. our room was big enough for 2 people and it was really clean. besides, location was the most attractive feature of the hotel. we could reach almost every historical place in a few minutes by walking. i strongly recommend who wants to stay here to taste turkish cuisine in the roof along with the charming view. overall; the room, staff, food, location was great. it is highly recommended. i am very thankful the staff who makes me feel valuable.

My husband and I went to Istanbul for Spring break. Our first impression is: well, I guess we will have to try to fit in this room. We had to have plans on how to best use the VERY little space in the room. The room is SMALL! VERY SMALL! Even compared to our hotel in China- it is very small! The room has a little TV, and a snack bar. DO NOT EAT OR DRINK FROM IT! It will cost you 3 times more than just around the corner.
We decided to replace what we had, and they still made us pay for it.
The only good thing about this hotel is the LOCATION. You are very close to EVERYTHING!
We stayed 8 nights at Nena. We had to sleep with the windows opened because the AC only delivers HOT air. That was hard! The noise on the street could be hard.
OH! If you are on a romantic trip with your honey! Forget any romance- they can hear everything. The walls are VERY thin- and we could hear everything people from the other room were talking.
Our room had no views. Our bathroom painting was a little off.
Overall, compares to a 2 stars here in the USA.
If all you need is good locations: there you go! oh! the views from the restaurant are good too!
After eating the same food for 3 days for breakfast- i needed to have breakfast somewhere else. They have THE SAME food everyday for breakfast. 8 days can be painful!

We just stayed there for 4 days. This place is great value for money, is very central, and provides a decent breakfast in the morning. Also, If you stay over 3 days you get a free taxi to and from the airport. My one small complaint was that the walls are very thin (or maybe my neighbour was just VERY loud..!!) Maybe the extra money for the deluxe room might have been worth it ??!
