“Average hotel for average prices”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

Everything to me was average about this hotel.
Nearly everybody here first mentions its stellar location: It was in the Old City, near sites such as Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace.
Although that point gets moot after one day when you've visited all those sites already. You're then surrounded by overpriced tourist traps, getting pestered by smooth-talking shop/restaurant owners.
Since it's also close to the mosque the 5am prayer loudspeaker can get loud at times, woke me up a few times - but then again I'm a sensitive sleeper.

The best thing about this hotel for us was it´s location. It's located in a quiet corner of the Sultanahmet hotel district, quite near the river. It´s a short walk to the Blue Mosque and park and the Hagia Sofia. Also the roof terrace has great views of the river on one side, and the Blue Mosque on the other, a highlight for breakfast. The buffet breakfast was a bit disappointing though, I have to say. Not a great selection and horrible machine coffee, but the views and the location more than made up for it, in my opinion. We were very happy with our choice.break

Room Tip: We requested a room on one of the upper floors, as we didn't want a basement room.

My friend and I spent a week at the Azade hotel and loved it. As we arrived at the hotel we could not believe how incredible the location was. With a 30 second walk from the Arasta Bazaar, 2 minute walk from the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia and a 5 minute walk from the Sultanahmet tram stop, the location was perfect. The staff is hard working, friendly, always smiling and very helpful. The rooms are new but comprise traditional Turkish décor, which made it the perfect combination. We were warned that the Sultanahmet area is older than the Takism area, and therefore, the hotels would not be as clean and modern. This was not the case at all at Azade. It really had the best of both worlds. The breakfasts could have had more variety. But what was there was fresh and tasty. The breakfast room which is on the top floor of the hotel boasts incredible views of the Bosphorus, the city and the Blue Mosque. We stayed at the Azade in January and enjoyed these views - I can only imagine how beautiful it is in Spring/Summer. The hotel also had leisure facilities. But beware, whilst most hotels’ leisure facilities (saunas, steam rooms and gyms) around the world are included in your room rate, we had to pay 15 Euros to use the hotel's Turkish bath and sauna, which whilst was enjoyable was not really worth it. We weren’t even taught how to use the special sponges/soap etc - one of the hotel visitors had to show us how to use them. We recommend if you want to enjoy the whole experience of the ‘Turkish Hammam’ to go to one of the traditional ones in town for the same price if not cheaper. But then again, if you fancied some pampering before bed after a long day of sightseeing then go for it!

Sadly, the one negative experience we had was that the hotel recommended we use Senkron Travel Agency for a cruise trip. The cruise was horrific with the most unfriendly and inattentive staff we have even encountered. At times the trip was even dangerous with the driver texting on the road. We checked the reviews on trip advisor and found that the reviews were all terrible as well and we were not an isolated case. We expressed our disappointment to the staff at Azade who were very apologetic and sympathetic but were unable to get our money back.

We had a wonderful time at the Azade and strongly advocate that people stay here. We would without a doubt go back again. Thank you for having us.

my trip to istanbul is very fantastic and the main reason i choose the right hotel for me. very nice place very nice staff very nice hospitality and staff behavior is very friendly and obedient, they are serving breakfast on the top roof of the hotel, very amazing scenes from there, you are having your breakfast there in front of sea, mr. sinan, mr. samir, mr. ahmet is very nice and very cooperative,

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side are quieter.

I stayed in a smaller hotel just down the street from the Azade and expected a lot more amenities at this hotel for the price.I was at the front of the hotel and it was very noisy. not very helpful with directions either. Great location but you can find hotels within a block for a better price

I had a good stay there. Good location of the hotel let me find it very easy. In my opinion all the roads of Sultanahmet go to Azade hotel. Samir bey, many thanks for comfortable room, perfect service, friendly staff and tasty breakfast! I enjoyed your hotel so much that will definitely stay there during my next visit to Istanbul.

We stayed at Azade for 3 nights after moving from a different property the first week of January. Firstly, the location is perfect to all the Old City sites. It is a 5 min walk to Hagia Sofia (Ayasofia) and the Blue Mosque, the Cisterns, Topkapi Palace, Archeological Museum. We arrived at 10am. The check in was fast and easy. Our room was ready after 1pm, so we left our bags and set off wandering the city. The room 312 had a beautiful view of the Blue Mosque and also a partial view of the Marmara sea, which was really cool. There were at least 3 thin windows in the room, so the room was perfectly bright and lovely as well as spacious! The bathtub was a funny shape, as it had a sort of a stoop that took up half of the tub, but it was fine. The breakfast served 7:30-10am was very good. The food was replenished quickly by the friendly staff, the views were astonishing!!! Must be amazing in the summer, when it is not too cold to just sit out on the terrace. The staff was very friendly always and the afternoon tea served in the lobby 4-6pm was also a nice touch (good cakes, if that's what you're into). The hotel also offered us a 10% discount if we paid in cash. We loved it.

Room Tip: Room 312 has a tiny view of the sea and a beautiful view of the Mosque.
