Owner description: The Chora Church (Turkish Kariye Müzesi, Camii yahut Kilisesi — variously the Chora Museum, Mosque or Church) is considered to be one of the most beautiful examples of a Byzantine church. The church is situated in the western, Erdinekapı district of İstanbul. In the 16th century, the church was converted into a mosque by the Ottomon rulers, and it became a secularised museum in 1948. The interior of the building is covered with fine mosaics and frescoes.

“Fantastic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2014

In spite of the fact that renovation is being done in the main area, don't let this stop you from visiting this church. The audio tour is pretty interesting and MOST of the mosaics and murals are actually in the areas that are still open.

Go early to miss the crowds.

“I Have a Regret”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2014

This was my 3rd time in Istanbul. At the first 2 times I didn't go to this museum. But this time I had few free time and had a chance to see the museum. IT WAS AMAZING... All of the Architects should see it. Amazing Mosaics. I guess next year I will also go the place to see again.

“A little gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

\this is a comparatively small church for Istanbul, but contains some absolute gems and should not be missed. Restoration work is currently being carried out, like so many of the cities' attractions, but this in no way detracts from the beauty of the place.

“Must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

Difficult to find but what a joy to discover. This place is best to visit before closing time (18.00 summer time) or early in the morning.

“for art lovers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

the mosaics are absolutely amazing. The place is very nice though it's quite away from other sites. I would recommend this place if you are in Istanbul for more than 2 days!
