“Excellent stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

very comfortable stay for 5 nights. Good large room. Excellent food. Concierge very helpful about visits to sights and restaurants. We were lucky with the weather in November only one evening of rain . Sat outside for breakfast each morning.

Service at its very best. Fantastic location in the old historic part of time - especially as it was winter so we were not wanting a swimming pool. The conciege booked our morning walking tour of the city and suggested very good restaurants. The restaurant in the hotel was also excellent. 8hr lamb, amazing!
The massage (shoulder and foot) very professional. All the staff were charming, nothing was too much trouble. Wonderful flowers/orchids everywhere, all very stylish. A perfect place to spend 4 days.

We had a lovely four-day stay at this hotel; there was nothing to fault with the room, amenities, service or food. The bed was VERY comfortable, bathroom was large and bright with separate bath and shower, two windows in our room with a side view of Ayasophia Museum. Breakfast is very good and goes from very early to very late (11 AM) so you can easily eat late and skip lunch. We also ate dinner once in the restaurant (Alper was a perfect waiter!) - there are Turkish and international dishes to satisfy everyone but the 8-hour lamb shank was AMAZING and highly recommended for a taste of royal Ottoman cuisine. All staff went out of their way to help us at every turn; I recommend you use the hotel car service for pick up and drop off at the airport since the greeter will help navigate any complications.

Room Tip: There are only 56 rooms and the most expensive are up top, but some on the ground floor also have go...

The hotel itself is stunning, very attractive, But, years ago, the building served as one of the jails in istanbul. The man in the move the real midnight express, and locked up abroad:turkey, is all based on experiences in this hotel. But, other than that very elegeant, and beautiful, worth the prices. I was also happy with the room (former cell), very pleasing and attratcive.

Dear Matthew M,

Thank you very much for your review. My name is Felix Murillo, I am the General Manager of the Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet.

Yes, yes, truth to be told this was an old prison. The building was constructed at the very early years of the 20th Century to hold the prisioners that were going to be judged at the next door Palace of Justice.

This next door Palace was a grand Neoclassical building that regretably went on fire by the 1920´s. So the Sultanahmet prison was left on its own.

For many years the prison was used for political prisioners... Those that thought differently... Novel prize winners today stayed here... Well in a different type of accommodations....

This must be what has left behind a very passionate and intelectual energy behind... Only yesterday when talking to the wife of a well known Austrian Journalist and writer in the courtyard of the Hotel.. She said to me..." There is a very nice Energy in this Hotel"... I loved it. It is not a normal compliment that a Hotel receives.. The guests normally talk about the staff, the Service, the Hotel, etc... But not the Energy. I loved it!

Matthew M. If I may ever be of any assistance please let me know. My direct email address is felix.murillo@fourseasons.com

Yours Cordially,

Felix

This hotel is very charming with Old World Elegance,if a bit faded. The staff are very accommodating & pleasant. Our room was very attractive ,but was somewhat spoiled by the view of the archeological dig, going on next to it. We loved closing the blinds by pushing a button !! We could ,if we looked out one window & twisted a bit ,see the back of the Hagia Sophia. The best thing about this hotel was it's location. It was within walking distance of most of the major sightseeing venues in Istanbul. There was a street full of restaurants just around the corner. This was good as the onsite restaurant was rather limited in it's choices. The bar however, had great choices for a light meal. i much prefer this location to the Four Seasons on the Bosphorus,as that hotel is long taxi ride from any sightseeing, though it is beautiful. If we go to Istanbul again ,we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again !!

Room Tip: Due the location of this hotel ,I'm not sure another room would have given us a better room. If...

We stayed at both Four Seasons hotels on a recent visit. Both had deluxe amenities, good service and good locations. We preferred the other hotel on the Bosphorus for its spectacular scenery. But if you are only there briefly and want to be close to the major attractions, this is the pick. THe hotel is expensive, but worth it - a lovely renovation of an old prison, with thick walls and pleasant common areas, and a small interior garden. It seemed almost impossible for taxis and tourist busses to get in to the tiny street close to the hotel, but for walking around, it is ideal. Steps from the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, and in a nice neighborhood of restaurants and shops. I don't think they had a pool or spa - we were there briefly and did not check.

Dear wywyno,

My name is Felix Murillo, I am the General Manager of the Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write about so clearly about your experience here and at the Bosphorus. I agree with you in all your comments and that the scenery of the Bosphorus water strip at the Bosphorus is spectacular, unique and super relaxing. While we have the Historical Monuments like the majestous St. Sophia from the 4th century just steps from us.

I would love to be of assistance in the future. My email address is felix.murillo@fourseasons.com. Please let me know how I may be of help at any time.

Yours cordially,

Felix
