“Great area, full of nooks & crannies.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

Excellent shopping, super restaurants, and endless little streets and alleys to wander around. If you don't mind the hills there are an endless choice of things to see and do.

“Great Historic District”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

Commercially viable, and visited by people of all over the world for it's important historic value. Yes, there are hustlers trying to see us something. To be expected when one is in this area, and not unlike Mexico or New York, or Rome, or Florence near the attractions. But, it is unique to visit, and we did it in 2 1/2 days, but didn't have time to go on the Bosporus tour, which we wanted very much to do. I loved this country, and it's people, and never felt threatened or intimidated;just eager for more historical understanding of the place where east meets west.

“Very touristy but very friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

The big plus here is that you are living/visiting perhaps the 5 most touristy spots of Istanbul within walking distance of each other. The atmosphere is just perfect, with quaint winding streets, street food, great energy, so many tourists who are friendly with each other and exchange notes happily!

Although a tourist centre, the area is packed with all manner of people from across the world and from all walks of life. Just wander round and soak up the energy and atmosphere.

“The real Istanbul”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

or at least the essence of Istanbul...absolute chaos in the streets close to the bazaar, eyebrow raising historical sites such as the Haga Sophia or the Blue Mosque, fun and friendly people, good food....just get lost in these confusing little streets and go into the places as you come across them or else you risk not finding them ever again.
