This is the area that most people thnk of as Istanbul. It is the home of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, the underground cisterns the Hippodrome,, the archeological museum and Topkapi Palace. The tram system stops at Sultanahmet station from which you can access all of these sites. It is a wonderful mixture of ancient wonders, restaurants, shops, mosques, parks, and the best people watching in the world. From here you can take the tram to Eminou (Egyptian spice market, Galata bridge and ferries to Europe) or up to Beyazit and the Grand Bazaar. Sultanahmet will have you clicking photos all day long. At night the view of the Blue Mosque is awe inspiring. You will be offered tour books, Bosphorus boat cruises, rugs, whirling dervish shows and the memories of a lifetime. It is clean and easy to navigate.
