For 1st time visitors to Istanbul I would recommend this area to stay. Easy access to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia and the Grand Bazzar plus the tram make it an ideal launching point from which to explore the city.
iN Sultanahmet you will find many of the historical, cultural and shopping places of Istanbul, including Ayasofia, the blue Musque, Topkapi palace and Grand Bazzar. Ist very safe and easy to go around. Downside is the extra prices you pay and the pushy restaurant workers trying to make you get into their restaurans.
This area is central, our hotel was based here. all sights in walking distance. lots of bars ice cream parlours restuarants etc
It is a historical district of Istanbul, the heart of the city. A very authentic place with many tourist attactions. One can get so much pleasure just simply walking there. It is wonderful especially at night.
So many sites to see, museums to visit, places to eat. The restaurants are amazing and it's hard to pick one. Just walking along the small roads is amazing. Sit and enjoy an ice cream cone and watch the people walk by.
