4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2014

I stayed for 2 nights as I attended a work event that took place at the hotel.

The location is alright - it's just by the Bosphorus so it has a nice view of the Asian side, the bridge and the water in general. It's on a quiet small street that runs along the bank.

The food is quite good. The breakfast choice was fair and varied, but some choices may not cater for certain guests - things like spring rolls, chicken curry and rice, or several other savoury choices. We also had function catering during the 3 days and many things were tasty, others were just OK.

The room itself was great. It was spacious and bright, no noise coming from other rooms and clean. The bathroom was big and nice, the room was well equipped for guests, TV had plenty of channels to choose from including other countries', the bed was very comfortable and big with lots of pillows, the WiFi was free AND fast (!). The turndown service was nice with sweets they leave every night and all well stocked for you.

The event rooms were actually very pretty and comfortable, well catered and with good air con/lighting controls. It felt well prepared.

The staff are one of this hotel's big bonuses. Everybody, and I mean everybody, was always smiling and welcoming. They all tried to be very helpful and accommodating and it showed that customer service is a priority to them. Extra points for that!

The pool outside was well sized and there's another one with more spa facilities on the basement but I didn't see those. We also had a water taxi that picked us up right from the hotel shore. One thing to note is that there is a mosque directly opposite the hotel, so that means that you will hear the call to prayer from 5:30am and it goes off 5 times a day. Not the hotel's fault but be aware of that, as you may prefer to face the waterside to avoid that.

Would I stay there again? if I find a good price at the hotel, definitely. But for the location, it'd have to be a good offer. Really good accommodations and service so keep that in mind!

Room Tip: Face the water!

This is one of the most regal and royal hotels in the world- it is old world yet has all the modern amenities. It is situated right on the Bosphorus River with beautiful landscaping and a stunning pool. The Palace is adjacent to the hotel and many upscale weddings and festivities make this an unbelievable venue. The rooms are rather large, ours faced the beautiful pool and the river. I am so glad we chose this ultimate hotel to celebrate a special anniversary.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a pool view

This is a "Leading Hotels of the World" partner hotel and part of the Kempinski group. It is a bit further down from Besiktas, where the Asia side ferry is by the Shangri-La (see my other review).

The hotel has plenty of history and character. The views are quite stunning from this hotel, with 80% of the rooms having some sort of Bosphorus view giving an incredible sense of freedom. It has plenty of space to enjoy whether in the rooms, the restaurants, the palace itself, the gardens and pool areas. Incidentally, the main outdoor infinity pool is heated year round to 30 degrees, so in Winter there was steam rising from its surface and a small heated glass cabana to retreat to stay warm and dry off!!

There are meeting rooms available on the ground floor, with opening doors to a private patio area overlooking the gardens and pool.

The service at this hotel was really excellent, the staff always greeting you by name and the main restaurant Laledan had the most wonderful breakfast choice, with views over the swimming pool and the Bosphorus. Likewise, the views from your balcony are quite spectacular. As I say they have a variety of Bosphorus views depending on whether you are in the left, middle or right hand side of the main building or indeed in the suites in the palace.

The palace building, some 114 years old, after having been rebuilt three times by various Ottoman sultans and is on the right hand side of the main hotel building. It includes the presidential suite and 10 other suites plus the Tegra Ottoman Restaurant, acclaimed as one of the best in the city but with the very special palatial surroundings.

I have a personal preference for the Çirağan Palace over the Shangri-La or the Four Seasons just down the road, but the Çirağan has the space that families especially with children will really appreciate in the summer time. I've been reliably told that their Turkish BBQ in the garden area is absolutely superb.

My wife and I went to this hotel for a Valentine's day experience including overnight stay and dinner. We started in the spa where we were charged 450TL (around £90) each for a massage. The spa, gym and pool area is badly in need of a refurb/upgrade. It looks nothing like a luxury spa - more like a run-down community sports centre. After our massage, we had intended to relax in the spa, but it was so crappy that we left within 5 minutes. So I reckon 450TL for a standard massage is more than twice the price it should be. Sanda Spa in Istinye Park charges 150TL for an excellent massage and facilities that you want to stay and relax in. The hotel room we had (superior Bosphorus view) was ok, but nothing special and certainly not worth the money. And the dinner was embarrassing - probably my fault for choosing a Valentine's package, but hearts and rose petals on every plate during a 6 or 7 course dinner was too cheesy. On the plus side, parts of the building are beautiful and the view over the Bosphorus is spectacular. But you can get that view from nice, simple cafes all along the Bosphorus and I just don't think the hotel comes close to justifying its price-tag. My fault for choosing badly - I hope others don't make the same mistake.

The entire hotel is spectacular and the view is breath-taking.
The staff is extremely nice and helpful in all kinds of situations and very professionnal. Despite the fact that it is a big hotel, they pay attention to every detail and are available. Everything was very pleasant from the moment we got there. After a long journey to get to Istanbul, we didn't need to wait at the counter, a person took care of the check-in while we were sitting in the lounge area. It was my first time in Istanbul and the whole experience was a delight, the Ciragan contributed greatly to my love for this city.
