Owner description: This enormous palace was the Imperial residence of Ottoman sultans for almost 400 years. Although much of the palace is not accessible, the daily tours of the Harem are of great interest to tourists.

“jewels are too poor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Our hotel was really close to the palace so we always had to pass the palace. It makes impression, really. Once we went in and had a full excursion there. I was shocked how poor jewels sultans had. really small stones, lack of gold! The palace itself and harem are interesting to visit but take the audio guide to have the full info.

“There are better places to visit”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

From outside it looks big and beautiful, but on the inside you have to pay 25TYL just to see it's gardens and boring bland rooms full of tourists and some windows with jewels on display. The only area worth checking is the harem and you have to pay an extra 15TYL to see it. And in those rooms you're not even allowed to take photos, so all the memories you'll have will be the gardens which are not that pretty.

“A must see”

So much to see - we spent a morning there. The Harem is definitely worth a visit, as is the jewellery collection. Nice cafe and OK loos.

“Lived up to expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

The Harem alone is worth the price. We thought the audi guide was an essential part of it-really made it so much more interesting. The grounds also give you space to sit and relax in between exploring. Get tickets in advanc e to avoid the queue. ALso signage is a bit poor-the Karen Exhibition which is clealry signed is not the Harem itself so you have to back track quite a bit. Go to the Harem first -just in case you get tired later as this is the very best bit.

“Spellbinding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

The treasures of the Sultans, the dimensions of the Palace and the passage and history of the Harem make for a ferry tale voyage through time. The largest pearl in the world, huge diamonds, golden thrones and other impressive jewels are worth the visit.
