“Crowded but amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

The Ayasofya has a scale of itself, a history of its own and an impressive atmosphere. Even with the sounds of thousands of tourists, the bustling of the tours, the lines to enter, the sounds of the cameras shooting quick snapshots, the centuries of neglect or improvements that changed some parts of the site the Ayasofya is drop dead gorgeous and without a doubt one of the top places to go in Istanbul.

“Possibly the most memorable cathedral...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2013

...both due to it's stunning beauty and the remarkable historic interactions with the Muslims that took over and converted it respectfully to a mosque, retaining most of the architecture and artistry.

“A MUST VISIT”

Expect a lengthy wait as the ques for this museum are always long. You can purchase a fast track ticket that allows you to take in other sites.

“You can't not visit!”

Not got an excellent because clearly the ticketing system needs sorting out. But this is such an important site I cannot imagine why you would not go!

“No matter my evaluation, it is still a must see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

We are glad we went. Impressive does not start to describe it.
Even when I grew up as a child, we were told how magnificent the Hagia Sofia was.
It is now strictly a museum, with line-ups for tickets as well as an entrance.

We were on a tour (no need if you stay in the old city) so we did not have to wait for tickets and in the line we were explained interesting fact about the history of this old church.

Oh yes it is worthwhile to see, but I found some old gothic churches in Europe more interesting with their ornamentations, their organs, their stained glass windows etc. etc.
1 Hours is more than enough as the the remains of the Greek Orthodox religion is gone elsewhere.
