“Interesting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

An interesting attraction where you find a combination of church and mosque together, but beware the queue to go inside was horrendous and it was a weekday for me. Luckily, I was part of the Turkish airline free city tour, so I was able to skip the long queue and went straight inside. I'm not religious, so wasn't able to appreciate all those artworks and architecture but the place was still pretty cool. The interior was lit by many candles hanging overhead, giving the place a serene yet mysterious feel.

“Interesting interior”

We had a bit of a queue to go in but it was worth the wait. The mosaics on the upper floor are beautiful.

“a TOP 5 Must See in Istanbul”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

LOCATION
It's conveniently located in the Sultanahmet district with the main tram line running right beside it so you've got no excuse to miss this attraction.

ATMOSPHERE
it's a well used site with lots of traffic in and out. chances are you be with your guide and hear about the key historical developments, changes and features of the site.

NOTED
* I personally loved the interlay of the giant Islamic "discs" hung around the rafters of the main dome instead of being embedded into the structure...

* this was formerly an Orthodox patriarchal basilica, then converted into a Mosque, and is a Museum present day.

HOW LONG TO TOUR
* if you've already got tickets you will need 5mins to enter, otherwise you'll have to line-up for about 10-15mins during the touristy seasons
* if you have a basic guided tour with an individual i'd estimate this to be a 1-1.5hr attraction
* if you use the audio tour, i would estimate 2hrs based on what friends told us
* if you just walk around by yourself, well... 20-30mins and you're out of there.
