“Go to the Spice Market”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

If you want to visit a 500+ year old shopping centre with over 3000 stores where you get hassled by pushy merchants at every turn, then this is the place for you. The quality of most items is highly suspect, and overall the experience is under-impressive. Go to the Spice Market!

“Some shops are treasure in here.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012 via mobile

Grand Bazaar is Very old and attractive place of istanbul. A lot of shops, mostly same choices.Employee and sellers are boring, ignore them. But some treatures inside. Traditional fabrics are rare and not expensive at "doctor's" and also "sivasli" mr. Necdet Danis at No:55 at " Yaglikcilar str."
And best designer's leather jackets are in the "Army of Love" shop at Tacirler str. Also
very rich Army vintage collection they selling. Very impressive.
And Old Bedesten contains very good jewelerry arts, mostly domestic silver and stone works are traditional, not imports.

“Really Grand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

I couldn't believe the size until I had to go round and round and got lost in the process.
There's so much jewelry, leather, clothes etc. Was surprised that its closed on Sundays though.
Got some perfumes-originals- after I had been offered fakes by the guys hawking them.
I insisted on going to their shop and this paid off. Got the real thing at good prices.

“Bright and lively - but full of knock-off bags”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

Meh. That about sums it up. I'm no stranger to bargaining but was surprised at just how many of the shops are either peddling the same plates and coffee sets (there must be one main wholesale outlet nearby) or knock-off handbags. It was fun to wander inside for a couple of hours and we left with a couple of plates but I really think an hour or so is more than enough.

“A rather interesting experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

The Grand Bazaar is very overwhelming to go as a western woman alone. I was pushed by women and called names by men that wanted to invite me into their shops. All that while by myself even though i was wearing jeans and long sleeved shirt.
Still i was able to buy a fake Goyard bag.
Upon returning with my husband and friends i had a more welcoming time by the locals. My hubby even bought a few rugs from a very legit store called Dhoku.
