“Little restaurant with great chef”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013 via mobile

This is awesome little restaurant where the friendly chef-owner makes delicious meals. The place is small and tight but the meals are great experience for good price. Try the chestnut soup.

“Five star food delights the eye and palate!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Very unassuming little restaurant amongst kebab eateries. Do not let that put you off. We had wonderful food made by owner chef who is a proud cook. We were told by our hotel that he has worked in a michelin starred restaurant and it shows. Seasonal chestnut soup with truffle oil was amazing and freshly made lasagne with goats cheese and spinach covered in perfumed tomato sauce was exceptional (having lived in Italy that is really saying something)! I had no room for pudding but after we were shown his selection on a mobile phone it was too awesome to miss out on. Best meal by far during our week's stay and extremely reasonably priced.

“Amazing! ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013 via mobile

Me and my girlfriend found this place through TA. It was a bit hard to find, located on a small sidestreet. From the looks of it, there was nothing special at all about this place. But from the moment our server greeted us and presented the menu and todays specialities, we knew this place was something special. Our server was very attentive, kind and genuine. The menu consisted of a somewhat smaller assortment of dishes. Since we're both vegetarian, our choices were small. I had the goat cheese lasagna with a sweet sauce with mashed tomatoes. My girlfriend had the meze plate, that consisted of an assortment of sauces basef of sundried tomatoes, aubergines, pomegranate. We had the chocolate mouse with rasperberry jelly as a dessert. We were offered delicious self-made potato chips and cholocate cookies during the meal, free of charge. Everything we haf was simply delicious! The prices were modest. We can both recommend this to everyone! This made our day!

“Great little restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

We ate here our first night in Istanbul. It's a small little unassuming place but warm and comforting, and served some of the best food we had in Istanbul. No alcohol is available, but don't let this put you off - GO! I loved it and know I will be back.

“Lovely meal, welcoming owner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

The food here is traditional turkish with a western/restauranty flair and presentation. The chef/owner does like go around showing off his dishes as they are cooked to order, so much that we wanted the same delicious looking deserts he made for the couple next to us.

For the money you can't beat Can Oba, I had a gorgeous lemon sauce salmon main course, freshly grilled and beautifully presented, worthy of a more upmarket restaurant. Soup/starters were tasty, mains are great value for money and the deserts are more western than traditional, but I have to give credit for the chocolate berry mousse in a chocolate shell, it was so good we could have eaten two of them!

We wanted to come back for another visit but sadly they were closed on Sundays. Boo hoo. One of the best value for money and best meals we had in the old city.
