“it was a pleasure to stay in this house”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

The house is in the middle of the historical Istanbul like a castle. We have been 2 women and felt like in the fairy tales of 1001 night. There had always been somebody for fullfilling our wishes.
'The view over the 'Golden Horn´was marvelous. You can enjoy the view during drinking a glas of
wine or eating something on the terrasse.
Its a real good access to the grand baszaar. It was a great pleasure to stay there only the time was to short.

Service, helpfulness and kindness of the staff were good, breakfast and tidiness of the room were excellent; very good location for a city trip: short distances, best view of the town, Golden Horn and the Bosporus; nice terrace with a beautiful view

The HHK Hotel is not going to appeal to everyone - it's a beautifully renovated 1920's mansion converted to a hotel, with a grand sweeping staircase but no elevator and you won't find a cookie-cutter room like a chain hotel. Instead, you'll find rooms with spectacular views to the Galata Tower with the Bosphorous and Golden Horn gleaming in the sun. A very good breakfast is served on a terrace where you could spend all day from sunrise to sunset just watching thousands of ferries and hundreds of ships crossing paths. But the Suleymaniye Mosque is only a five minute walk up the street and the Spice Market is only a five minute walk down the hill, so you couldn't possibly miss visiting them. That's another reason the hotel is not for everyone - it's near the top of a steepish slope that requires basic fitness levels to reach the front door, but it's worth the climb. Once there you'll either be charmed or challenged to find that a local family have about twenty fowls pecking around on the street and you'll also notice many derelict houses in the immediate area. Friends told me that the houses are all subject to heritage orders and any construction requires tedious approvals, so most owners have decided to just allow the houses to deteriorate to the point they collapse. Ironically, an adjoining street is named for one of Istanbul's most famous architects - Mimar Sinan - who lived and worked a few doors up the street from the HHK Hotel while he was designing and supervising construction of the Suleymaniye Mosque during the 16th century. Architect Sinan would undoubtedly be saddened by the visible dereliction in the area, but it is still fascinating to walk around this photographer's paradise and discover the streetlife. The Istanbul University, one of the original Hammams (Turkish Bath), the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Castle, Hagia Sophia and the Grand Bazaar are all within a fifteen minute walk if you don't stop along the way - but you'll be unable to resist stopping. The hotel really is in an amazing location and each day you'll want to get out and explore this fascinating city. Tour buses can't fit down the streets around the HHK, so guests tend to be experienced European travellers who are looking for unique accommodation of good standard and exceptional service. If you like discovering neighborhoods in new cities by yourself and enjoy just wandering around watching or photographing the streets, you'll love this part of Istanbul. And when you're ready for the tourist sights, ferries and landmarks, they're on your doorstep.

Room Tip: There are rooms beneath the terrace next to the swimming pool that have unobstructed views for 180º...

The staff are very friendly and kind.
The rooms are quite clean, some a little small: mostly excellent for couples.
Very nice view of the (Marmara) sea.
Good access to grand bazaar and Eminuno area with so many people enjoying snacks and cheap (but good) meals.
A little uphill steep to walk back the hotel, but, yet good to burn some fat of the Turkish tasty foods in your way back to hotel!

Great breakfast in a very friendly and nice balcony and small pool.

Room Tip: Next time, I will arrange the specific room to be big enough with a sea view. We tried the excellen...

This boutique hotel is conveniently located close to the major historical sites such as the Grand Bazaar, Blue Mosque and the Palace. We don't speak Turkish so the helpful staff were wonderful to help us get acquainted with the city and getting around. Their restoration of this historical mansion is fantastic. We loved the food, wine and service in the restaurant. The rooms are somewhat small by north american standards, but certainly not small by European standards. The views of the water from the Terrace are amazing. A wonderful place to stay to explore Istanbul; we will definitely stay there on our next visit.

The very friendly and happy staff went out of their way to cater for all our needs, and made us extremely welcome. With a wonderful view to the eastern sun rise, there is an unequalled 180 degree view of the Golden Horn, and the Bosphorous. The hotel have carried out a recent sensitive and attractive resoration of this Ottoman style 19th century house, and many rooms have uninterrupted views.

All in all very good value which we would thoroughly recommend!

Room Tip: Aim for a room looking east to the Golden Horn

A real jewel, centrally located, with a splendid view of the Golden Horn, Galata tower, Galata bridge and the Bosphorus. Very friendly staff and service. We felt extremely comfortable and will gladly book this hotel again for our next trip to Istanbul.

Room Tip: Rooms with sea view offer a sight similar to that from the roof terrace.
