“Modern Oasis in the Center of Sultanahmet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

I was recently referred to Kumru hotel by an American expat in Istanbul and I couldn't be more glad to find this gem. It is five minutes from all of the picturesque tourist sites in Sultanahmet and the beautiful Bosphorus river.

The decor is impeccably chic, modern, and most of all comforting. The staff is pleasant and helpful beyond belief. They're always dressed in a smile.

The breakfast selection is vast and fresh. The rooms are very spacious and clean. There are converters/adapters in the outlets, which was a tremendous relief. I would stay at this hotel from here on out while in Istanbul.

Room Tip: The suite on the 4th floor is impeccable.

Thanks to all staff at Kumru, very helpful and accommodating - especially the small details and assistance, which is the difference between good and excellent. The hotel is clean and comfortable, the location is perfect for quick access to the city, but also for the main airport. I would stay again, it is excellent value. I especially recommend the breakfast, a full spread of Mediterranean cuisine and condiments, good coffee and friendly and homely service.

I would strongly recommend staying at the Kumru Hotel. The service from the front desk to the maid service is personable and accomodating. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The location is short walking distance to all the major sights.

Room Tip: I would recommend a room on the back side of the hotel because the street side can be a little noisy...

We stayed here for four nights in February/March 2013. It's a very, very nice hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. We came on the subway/tram (about 45 minutes) from Atatürk. When I was there, the tram wasn't stopping at Çemberlitaş, but you can just get off at the next one (Sultanahmet) and it's not much further.

The hotel is located near all of the key tourist sites. There are a lot of restaurants and convienence shops nearby. The breakfast is really good, with Turkish specialties to try, not just a run-of-the-mill continential breakfast.

Really, really recommendable and I would return!

We spent lovely 8 days in hotel Kumru in October 2012. The hotel is easily accesible by public transport right from the airport (ca. 45 min. trip) and located right in the heart of the Sultanahment historic district. That makes all the key city landmarks in this part of town right within a short walk. So this hotel can serve as great headquarters for seeing Istanbul and taking advantage of all its treasures. The hotel is run by an Amarican lady form Boston and her Turkish friend. They make w very welcoming and friendly duo of managers. They offer a lot of advice on the sights to see, restaurants to visit and a handful of guide books. Breakfasts are served at the rooftop terrace - what a wonderful way to start the day overlooking th city in a gentle breeze. The food is plentiful and very tasty - just somethong you need to accumulate energy necessary for a busy day. The room and bathroom were very clean. All the interiors are freshly redecorated. The hotel is not cheap, which for some could be a significant dwonside, but well worth checking it out due to all the above mentioned "upsides" :)

When arriving in a new city one should always be met by the people from the Kumru Hotel. Efficient, friendly, articulate and very welcoming. One is quickly introduced to a spacious room with color and light. Melissa and Abdul, the owners of this year old boutique hotel have a personal touch that makes Istanbul accessible and easy, they have wonderful staff and a breakfast to die for! Take the plunge and stay with them and visit this amazing city. Quite wonderful.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms are good - I stayed in suite and it was splendid.
