“Nice, but no frills”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014

If there was a rating between "average" and "very good," that's what I would give the Mari Time. It was completely adequate for our needs, but nothing more than that.

The good:
- you can't beat the location - less than a five-minute walk to the Blue Mosque/Aya Sofia square.
- staff is nice, speaks good English, and was very helpful in organizing transport to and from various places. Oguz (one of the guys manning the front desk) also has lots of good recommendations for restaurants, etc. There is someone at the desk 24/7.
- wifi is reliable and there is a laptop onsite in case you don't want to use your smartphone.
- the shower is good and hot
- in room coffee (well, Nescafe) and tea

the less good:
- the rooms are VERY small. Not enough room for me to have an open suitcase on the floor
- if your room faces the front of the hotel, be prepared to be woken up at six in the morning by voices on the street. (You'll also be woken up by the muezzin, but that will happen anywhere in the city.)
- breakfast is pretty basic - bread, salads, cheese, and spreads (ja,s, olives, etc). Once in a while you'll get french toast or hard-boiled eggs.

Would I stay here again? Maybe - it seems pretty representative of what you'll get for this price. But I would look at other options as well.

Room Tip: If you face the street, you will be woken up early in the morning.

Okay folks, lets not focus so much on the friendliness of the staff and instead focus on the hotel itself. The location is excellent, but the hotel is not. Rooms are extremely small, enough room for unopened suitcases and dreary at best. No elevator. My room wreaked of cigarettes. Our sheets had large stains and there was one working outlet to recharge accessories. Breakfast was limited to olives and some salads. Staying there would have negatively influenced my stay in Istanbul, which I found to be a wonderful city. Despite having pre-paid for 4 nights, we moved a block away to the Albinas hotel, which is a class act with similarly friendly staff, also quiet and with meticulously clean rooms and robust breakfast. The cost is comparable.

Room Tip: Look around the same area and you'll find a room which is far superior at similar cost.

Very helpful, friendly staff. Served us Turkish tea & coffee while we were waiting for our airport transfer. Good breakfast. Many restaurants as well as Blue Mosque withing 5 - 10 minute walk. Good value for the money. Rooftop terrace not open during our stay & is open only during warmer months.

Room Tip: Avoid downstairs room near lobby if cigarette smoke bothers you as smoke from street comes in when l...

The Hotel is clean and rooms are good. Very reasonably priced for the location (stone throw distance from attractions and city).

The staff is very very helpful, humble and treats you well. There is someone at the reception all day and night to assist you with everything from suggestions, booking and any query. They are very friendly!

Would definitely recommend...

Room Tip: close to attractions friendly staff

I completelly reccomend this hotel! Located less than 10 minutes walking from the Blue Mosque, in a quiet street with a very friendly staff always ready to help you! The rooms are new, the breakfast is very good. And is so cheap!

Situated about 10 mins walk from the blue mosque, be prepared to be woken up with the call for prayer that is so loud it's practically in your room. But a great location in the old part of town is worth it.
The hotel is right in the middle of the old quarter and is easily walkable to all of the major features of Istanbul. The staff are very friendly and eager to help arrange things. We booked a tour to Gallipoli and a visit to a local hammam through them and they were happy to sort out all translation. The rooms are small and basic, but clean and tidy. The roof garden is a hidden gem, and you can take your breakfast up there, but be prepared to carry it up 3 flights of stairs! Breakfast is an olive, tomato, cucumber and bread affair, but is good, edible and will keep you going for sightseeing. A nice little hotel, that is great value for money and in a great location.

Great little hotel set in the heart of sultan Ahmet area although in the heart of things this hotel is not noisy as it is set back on a quiet side road
All the main toursit attractions are within walking distance and the tram stop is on the door step. You will not need to walk far to reach anything.
The hotel is small 14 rooms . We had a family room which consisted of 2 rooms with a connectiıng door. The rooms were very clearn and nicely fitted and the bathrooms were very modern and clean. The shower was fantastic after a hard days sight seeing!!!
The staff were brilliant very helpfull and had time to chat and help you out if you had a any question
Breakfast was a basic Turkish breakfast but there was plenty of it including teas.coffees and fruit juices.
I would definetly stay here again if İ visited İstanbul. A little hidded gem in the hustle and bustle of Sultan Ahmet ç
