“never again....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

We spent there recently one night and although one doesn't expect any luxus it was even worst as expected.Room bit dirty, very noisy, very poor and dirty area, the toilet got broken...Advice-dont book the rooms with sea view on the lower floor, the fish smell is unbearable and its everywhere.Overall dissapointing accommodation, we won't come back for sure.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

We have traveled extensively internationally, and I have never come across an apartment quite like this. We had 5 people in our party- and the apartment is nice, but the location is in a very dirty, poor area. Upon our arrival, we were quickly ushered in by a very sweet woman who was helpful, but we all thought to ourselves, "this is it?" the apartment is truly in the middle of a fish market. There are No other apartments around. I felt as though the location was completely misrepresented via the Internet listing. The fish market stench is quite present.

When we walked through the apartment, the first thing I noticed was the view- it's gorgeous an awesome. The linens are nice and the appointments are beautiful. The next thing i noticed were the rat traps. When i asked about this, I was told that there were just a precaution- but two days later when i heard scurrying across the floor- I decided it was time to leave.

The worst part though is the Noise. Istanbul is a chaotic, crazy city- and we booked this nice apartment as a refuge from the crazy days- but the apartment was the least relaxing place we spent our time. Our host mentioned that at 6pm everything was quiet, but there were earplugs given to each person at the apartment. At 11:30pm, the fun begins. Galata bridge has clubs that line the whole underneath and they face the apartment and begin rocking at 11:30 and don't stop until 3am. This is NOT an exaggeration by any means- of you want to sleep- go elsewhere. My husband walked around with his iPhone recording the sound because he was so amazed at how much sound could come from so many directions. There are sound proof windows, but they don't take care of the issue in any way.

Kindly, after two sleepless nights, hearing beats from 10 different clubs through the earplugs, we were allowed out of our contract and went elsewhere. I was very grateful for their understanding. When I voiced my concerns, the host said that she knew the neighborhood needed work, and that they believed it would improve over time. It is not there yet.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2012

Our family (5) spent a week here in the 3 bedroom apartment on the top floor. Each bedroom has a modern en suite bathroom and a large comfortable double bed. The living room / dining room is large and easily accommodated the family in the evenings and at breakfast. The apartment has a small galley style Ikea kitchen which was completely adequate for the meals we prepared. Good wifi coverage for the numerous Apple devices the family seems to have accumulated.

The killer is the view straight across the water to the Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, New Mosque and the Sulimaniye Mosque - absolutely breathtaking. It cannot be expressed in words.

The street scene outside the apartment door is hilarious - a higgedly piggedly set of back street stores selling hardware (tools, paints, nails, screws...). The ground floor of the building has an excellent fish restaurant (which mostly has its tables in the garden), and you are no more than a few steps from the Karakoy ferry stop, the local tram stop and the access way to the Galata Bridge which puts you in the centre of Istanbul (at the spice market) in 3 minutes when you walk across it. The lower deck of the bridge has cafes and restaurants where we had a couple of outrageous evenings - busy but not tourist traps - plenty of locals dancing, raki and laughter.

The apartments are managed by a lovely lady who helped us at every turn. She walked us to the local supermarket on the first morning, wrote down some helpful Turkish words, arranged for our laundry to be done and explained the "Istanbulkart" system which enables you to use all forms of public transport with one rechargeable card.

Excellent value place to stay!
