“Good Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2014

This is a good hotel for easy access to the old town is steps to the Blue and Sophia Mosques, Topkapi Palace and museum... The Grand Bazaar is nearby (7 minute walk) as is "modern" shopping areas. The tram stop is literally around the corner and the choice of restaurants is literally endless. This is a great alternate location to the older part of Sultanhamet, which is pricier but certainly more charming...
This hotel has a friendly staff, small lobby, an upstairs terrace restaurant with good views over the surrounding area. The rooms are SMALL, but typical of the area as we have discovered over our now multiple trips here. If you want a good value and location, this is a good place to be...Warning, they do not have parking, although they claim to....

Room Tip: No good views....Go have a drink on the rooftop for views!

It is a very nice and small hotel dedicated for tourists. For the "default sightseeing programme" location could not possibly be better - it's just a couple of minutes from the Sultanahmet Square, where the key sights (Sultanahmet Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern, Topkapı Palace, Arecheological Museum) are concentrated. Also the Grand Bazaar is not far away, easily within walking distance. Should you need to go to modern parts of Istanbul, a tram stop is just around a corner, allowing you to reach Taksim within something like 20 minutes (tram to Kabataş and then F1 funicular).

Hotel itself is very nice and clean, although the rooms are relatively small. I visited this hotel once before, and then I got a larger room, this time it was smaller, but still enough for a tourist (I did not come to Istanbul to linger in the hotel after all). Bathroom was nice and fuctional and so was air-conditioning, although its control was a bit complicated without a manual and it did switch for heating-only mode couple of times - be aware that this can happen. What could definitely be better, is the soundproofing, so be prepared to hear some noise from your neighbours and to be heard as well.

Staff of the hotel was friendly and helpful and resolved all our requests without any problems.

Internet access is fully functional and free of charge.

Breakfast is nice, although for some it might lack variety (depending on what kind of breakfast you are used to). It is served on the roof terrace, which during winters is now closed. It offers a perfect view towards Haghia Sophia, Golden Horn and Bosphorus, although the Blue Mosque, which is partially obscured by a quite ugly residential building. Be aware that to get there you will need to climb a flight of steps, elevator does not reach the terrace.

Upon bookig hotel emailed me with an airport pickup offer, which we did use. The cost was EUR 25, paid in cash upon departure (although it could be, and actually was, paid with Turkish lira converted at a rate of 3:1), although according to the information on the hotel website one way transfer is free of charge if you book through that website instead of using some agent. Transport provided was fast and comfortable, and I think it was worth some extra money over a standard taxi.

All in all I am very happy about my stay at Burckin Hotel and I can recommend it for tourists, perhaps a bit less for business travellers, mainly due to lack of comfortable workplace in the room (but if you don't have any work to do at the hotel, you may well go for it and take an opportunity to see the main sights which are very close).

Room Tip: It is possible to get a room with a view towards the Hagia Sophia, but this is only possible at floo...

Great hotel, perfect location, next to main street.
Nice atmosphere, very clean, cosy and quiet.
Our room was too small and breakfast was very simple.
I would stay there again and again.
I loved the terrace and i will wait to stay there in the summer time...

Burckin was in an excellent location - near to all the top sites (Grand Bazaar, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Aya Sofia) and on a street which is off the main strip with restaurants and shops. Checkin and checkout was very fast and the staff were friendly. The room was clean enough at face level - however the room service menu had drink stains and dried up food stuck on the inside and the wooden floor was sticky (use the slippers provided). However what takes the cake is the vanity kit in the bathroom was not replaced from the previous occupant - this was evident in the almost empty box consisting of one cotton pad, an empty plastic wrapper which looked like it once contained a cutip or an emery board and two remaining sections which were also empty. I took the cover off the box to indicate to housekeeping that it needed to be replaced, but came back to the room in the afternoon to find the box just covered again and as if this was the norm. The very small shower also had black mould growing the corners. Nice place if you're not fussy and just looking for a place to rest after sight seeing and a night out on the town.

i am an experienced world traveler of mature years, picky on hotels (but not overly so), who does much advance research on my travels, including the accommodations, and therefore is rarely really disappointed in them.
i have stayed here a couple of times, returning because of several reasons.
it is a great location in sultanahmet between the blue mosque and the bazzar. perfect location half a block from the tram line between the two stations. walk everywhere or take the tram down to the ferry port/rr station and over to the newer city. no hills to climb to anything on this side of the bridge.
it is a friendly place and they will help you with your siteseeing plans and projects with "how to get there" and "what to see" info if you are nice and personalble to them.
breakfst up on the penthouse is very nice and cheerful and a good meal.
the rooms have all the "mod cons", but they are really laughably small. ok for a single, but for two people??: get real !! last time i had a "view room" near the top with a lovely balcony which made ALL the difference. there is a computer 24 hours off the lobby. no dinners, but lots of restaurants and a minimarket nearby. quiet location. nice decor in the rooms and super clean, of course. it feels like home, and i look forward to staying here.

Room Tip: upper floor view room with balcony - pay extra but worth it.

I have stayed at the Burckin Hotel on two different occasions. I am reluctant to tell people what a great hotel it is...I don't want to find out next time I visit Istanbul that is is all booked out (which it should be, as it is great value!). They have a wonderful breakfast on their roof-top restaurant with fantastic views across to the Blue Mosque and the Bosporus. Very pleasant and helpful staff and service. Very conveniently located just off the tramway between Sultanahmet and Cembirlitas Stations. The rooms and bathrooms are not large, but very adequately furnished. And they have free wireless internet into the room. I will certainly stay here again when I am next in Istanbul (I usually visit at least once a year...a great tourist destination!)

Room Tip: The balcony rooms on the top floor are great...and the extra room charge is modest!
