There's a reason the reviews for this place are so consistently high. To be more precise, there are two reasons: Murat and Murat. Never in all of my travels have I been made to feel so welcome and felt so comfortable at a hotel, but these guys really go above and beyond to help their guests feel at ease.
The location is ideal, as you are less than 2 minutes from Istiklal and very close to a number of great restaurants and sights in the Beyoglu neighborhood. At the same time, you feel as if you're immersed in the local environment in a safe and hip neighborhood.
The hotel decor is sort of Istanbul-meets-NYC, and it really works. Lots of IKEA stuff, and the rooms and lobby are very comfortable and inviting. We were in room 6, and it was definitely roomy and nice. The bathroom is small but clean and sufficient. They provide soap, shampoo, and conditioner, along with some really huge fluffy towels. The bedding is crisp, soft cotton, and the bed is quite comfortable. The rooms also come with a flat screen TV (with satellite, mostly Turkish and Arab channels), a big bottle of water, and a tea kettle. It was one of the few hotel rooms I've ever stayed in that I actually enjoyed hanging out in! The weather was rather cold and rainy, so we weren't able to take advantage of the cute little balcony. The windows were remarkably sound-proofed, and we had no issues with outside noise. There is a mosque about 500 feet away, so you will hear the call to prayer early in the morning, but it's part of the charm of travelling in Turkey!
The breakfast every morning was one of the highlights. There was always plenty of bread, butter, jam, olives, cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, coffee, and tea. Every morning, there was always some kind of extra surprise, like cake, cookies, crepes, or menemen (scrambled eggs with peppers and tomato). Be warned: You will go home craving the menemen! I don't even normally like scrambled eggs, but I ate that stuff like there was no tomorrow. No matter how late we got up, they were always wiling to accomodate us. Sometimes, we filled up on breakfast and didn't eat again until dinner.
Many nights, we would hang out with one of the Murats in the lobby drinking wine, beer, or raki and talking about all kinds of things. They are both incredibly kind and interesting people! The older Murat was quite helpful in coordinating our New Year's Eve plans, and even managed to negotiate a discounted rate for us. When our flight got cancelled and we ended up staying 2 extra days in Istanbul, the younger Murat found a nice apartment for us to stay in and also negotiated a good rate for us. They really took care of us like we were family!
The maid is also very kind and helpful. She does a great job keeping the place clean and always greeted us with a warm smile every morning as she brought our breakfast to the table.
We definitely intend to return to Turkey one day, and when we do, we will definitely include at least a couple of nights at Peradays. I would honestly recommend this place to anyone, no matter your travel style or budget.
