“No integrity or honesty”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

We arrived on a Friday night with a printed email confirmation of our booking made months in advance. Nevertheless the staff dismissed us claiming that an email was sent to us a week ago cancelling our reservation. (Obviously,we never received such email and don't believe it was ever sent). The staff was completely unwilling to help us find another hotel and almost tried to ignore our presence in the lobby. Eventually we managed to find another hotel ourselves (but this was both difficult and stressful on a Friday night in Istanbul). Our advise: Avoid SURA. They have no integrity or sense of service and honesty!

Room Tip: Find another hotel

Stayed here in April ...Good room, good staff, Great location..will be going back. The staff were very helpfull and very polite...Very quiet and private rooms. The view from the great balcony was great. The location was excellent with everything in walking distance from the hotel.
The bathroom in the room is very private...The safe is situated in a brillient possition and very easy to access. Recommend this hotel for the older folks amongst us as everything is very well situated.

Room Tip: Street view..excellent view and quiet

Right smack in a perfect location. Close walk to all the amazing sites but also on a quiet street. No issues with the staff. The restaurant was good for our first night in istanbul.
Very close to a lot of other restaurants in the area.

Room was nice. Very clean and decorated nicely. Shower always had good hot water in the morning. Would recommend to anyone looking in the area.

We have just stayed for four nights at the Sura Design Hotel Istanbul. If you want something different then this is the place. We could not fault the hotel and Staff, especially Erol, Mehmet, Tarik, and Bilil..thank you for fun evenings...brilliant! As for this hotels situation, in my view it just could not get any better, 5 minutes walk from just about anything, with many restaurants in very close proximity...this little boutique hotel is a must!

It was my 1st time in Istanbul and will certainly not be the last... The hotel is beautiful and what makes it better is the staff. They are all very helpful, always smiling and had the feeling that they work everyday hhh!!!! You see the same people everyday which makes you more comfortable. They recognize you by name and they are all very attentive to requests. I would recommend this hotel to all families, couples... the ambiance is amzazing, the breakfast area is huge with a larege variety of food. The hotel is located in Sultanahmet and is very close to all the major sights. It is a very safe and chilled out area.

All in all choose Sura if you want to relax and if you would like to have a perfect service and see lot of smiling faces.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the people that made my stay a memorable one: Belkis Yakan the customer relations manager, ( it is because of this particular lady's prompt response to all my emails that I booked my stay at this hotel ). She was an absolute professional in all matters that I raised and dealt with all my request in quick and very efficient manner. Semit and Mehmet at the reception were also very helpful and all others that i cant remember the names of.

After an initial 3 nights stay at the number 1 rated, Hotel Neorion in Istanbul, we flew to Cappadocia for 3 nights. After our return to Istanbul, we spend the first 2 nights at the Hotel Ciragan Palace and the last 2 nights at the Sura Design & Suites Hotel - mainly for shopping purposes. This hotel's proximity to the Arastar Bazaar (5-7 minutes walk) and Grand Bazaar (2 tram stops) is simply great, too good to believe!

Upon arrival at 2pm, we were asked to wait half an hour for our room to be ready. Not a problem, as the ever friendly Mr Kostantine served us free tea and we had a nice time exploring and resting in its gorgeous and classy lobby area. Like the hotel owner's good taste, we too, have the Honey Onyx marble as well as the High back chair at home - felt almost like home immediately.

Our chosen room, 301, was a corner room facing the back of the Hotel's beautifully manicured and tendered gardens. So this review is based on this corner room which I felt the Hotel should have charged a little more for it due to the extra bath tub and space in the room. Otherwise, guests would invariably request for these corner rooms ....and some may get disappointed if they could not get hold of it.

The room certainly has a 'Wow' factor, it is undeniably modern, spacious and yet very comfortable and functional. I personally like classic traditional style but am impressed by the interior designer of the room. Bed was comfy and so was the requested, orthopedic pillows. The bathroom was so so spacious, with floor to wall totally covered in white marble! The twin vanity sinks and other bathroom accessories seemed like gold-plated to me ....

Having a gorgeous claw-legged bathtub at the end of the room is both a fashion statement as well as very functional, too. Had a nice soak in it after all the day's last minute shopping - nice!!! Storage space for clothes, however, was quite limited but there is a horizontal bar above the tea/coffee counter where we could hang our other clothes. So, not a problem here.

The TV hidden in the big glass mirror right in front of the bed does have some English channels, like BBC and Bloomberg. And there is even an Ipod station, so bring your Ipod with romantic songs, and everything would seem so nice and perfect! There is a kettle for boiling water but the coffee maker is chargeable, unlike other hotels in the trip, so be careful. We did not know it before hand, but anyway, at only 3 TL a cup, its fine.

At breakfasts, we were surprised to see an egg station available, mainly seen only in 5 star hotels. But the other range of food was quite varied and good as well (though the Neorion was better). Be sure to try the fresh Orange or Pomegranate juice - very nice indeed! The location of the Hotel is simply the best of the 3 Istanbul hotels we stayed in - Blue Mosque in 3-4 minutes and the Haiga Sophia in 5 minutes! Lots of shopping and restaurants along the small streets and along the main road.

Not forgetting, the hotel's lovely gardens. Spent sometime exploring it and found 5 red maple trees in early April - soooo lovely. The rooms facing this gorgeous gardens are great for sleeping and we even slept through some morning call to prayers. Guessed its sound proofing windows were of great quality, as well as those thick and heavy curtains does the trick of blocking out noises.

Some constructive comments for the Sura Hotel -
1. there is no extractor in the room's toilets so the room smelled a little after someone finishes his/her business.
2. housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful but they often talked and laughed along the corridor, sometimes disturbing our afternoon naps.
3. the false ceiling above the bed and giant mirror area should have some lights for reading and putting on make-up in front of the mirror.
4. emails to the Hotel before the trip were met with very slow response.

Overall, we thought this Hotel has the potential to be a top 10 rated one in Istanbul. Every hardware in the Hotel and its Location seems perfect to us (only lack of a small pool and a sauna room but there is an exercise room near the breakfast area). Staff training was quite good, as Mr Kostantine at Reception has taken pains to tell us where to top up our Istanbul card - thank you indeed!

If this Hotel can take a leaf from the Hotel Neorion's Service attitude and Service Dept./Culture (ie never say 'No' to a guest), it would in no time climb to be among the top spot among Istanbul hotels, trust me. We have had a great 2 nights stay here, and slept so well on our last night that a 10 hour trip home the next day was nothing but a breeze ... too well rested here I guess. Enjoy the Sura, what a 5 star choice in Istanbul - Brilliant!

Room Tip: Ask for corner rooms, like 101, 201 and 301.
