We had the unfortunate experience of travelling with Fez tours to Gallipoli, stay overnight near Channakanale and then onto Troy the following day. The tour guide was 40 minutes late picking us up from our hotel, we then spent another hour driving the streets of Istanbul trying to locate motels of the remaining passengers. Our first stop was at a garage for morning tea which had the filthiest toilets imagineable. A lunch at Channakanale then onto Gallipoli where our Turkish guide advised us that the Allies were so stupid, they thought they were at the sphinx. I took further objection to comments such as 'the allies got sick from eating too much cake and chocolate and our Turkish martyrs only had bread'. He also advised us, that thanks to your men, my people could not drink from water because of all the blood in it. Nearby our group, we could overhear another guide who was maybe Aussie or Kiwi giving a very insightful and interesting account of the events associated with the area. My first recommendation would be to choose an Aussie as a guide, as I particularly interested in the Allies efforts. After an enjoyable ferry ride, we are taken by bus to a hotel, many miles out of town, where we are advised to 'get out, you stay here'.
The bus collects us from our motel in the afternoon and takes us by minivan to Troy. Our guide is thoroughly knowledgeable on the history of Troy and makes our visit very worthwhile. However, when we return to the bus, I find that my bag (you know, we are told leave your bag on the bus it will be fine). has been opened as all the zippers are still open and my all cash has been taken from my purse. Fine for the driver, to go through my bag and help himself to my cash, when queried about this the driver reverts to the 'no english, no english' crappy response, despite being capable earlier. When departing the site, we advised that we cannot use the toilets at the site we must return to the bus. As it turns out, our guide owns a souvenir shop nearby and we should shop there.
Upon our return to Channakale I was greeted with hostility regarding my accusations and my credibility was diminished, being advised by the tour guide that I must have made a mistake and that I was wrong.
