On a recent visit to Istanbul I booked a trip to Gallipoli with Turkey Tours. I had looked at the bus trips available but felt I wanted more flexibility in the day. I travelled with a friend, we are both in our 60s, and didn’t want to spend over 12 hours in a bus.
It was easy to make the booking online with Ozkan and the day of the trip ran very smoothly as well. Our guide, Abdil, arrived in perfect time at our hotel – there are so many hotels in Sultanahmet we weren’t sure how easy it would be for him to find it. The car was very comfortable, Abdil is a very skilled and safe driver and he was excellent company. It doesn’t take long to realise what a wealth of knowledge Abdil has about Istanbul and Turkey and he shares it in a very authentic way. The visit to Anzac Cove and surrounds was important to me and I couldn’t be happier with the way the day turned out. Abdil’s knowledge, respect for all aspects of the Gallipoli conflicts, and excellent communication skills were what made it such a great day.
We stopped for a snack along the way and then stopped for lunch on the trip home. Abdil recommended great cafes both times – absolutely delicious local food and very reasonably priced. I was more than happy to cover the cost of meals for the three of us.
On our return to Istanbul, we hit heavy traffic on the outskirts of the city. Whilst this was obviously frustrating to all of us, Abdil showed good humour during the long delays we experienced. He continued to talk to us about the places we passed and we were so late returning we felt we had a bonus ‘Istanbul at night’ tour.
We were so happy with Abdil’s skill as a guide, we were lucky enough to book him up for some time the following day to see the Grand Bazaar and the Suleymaniye Mosque.
Dealing with Turkey Tours was a great experience – easy to organise and an exceptional guide service provided. Thank you both!
