“JUST AMAZING !!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

The Panorama 1453 is just amazing. The history of the conquest of Constantinople is not only a legend of heroism, but a product of engineering genius. There are over 200 information settings telling you this history. Be sure to pick up a set of translation headsets, as this will help you greatly. When you go up the stairs to the dome, you will be "blown away". The scene is just unbelievable, it is too hard to describe. The best way is for you to go ans see it for yourself, you will not be disapointed, and do not forget to take your camera. Memories for a life time.

“a history lesson”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

This is a dome shaped museum showing panorama display of what happened in 1453 when Ottoman Empire conquered Istanbul from Byzantine Empire. It's well worth a visit. Nearby is the ancient city wall with 3 layers of defenses, or what's left of it. After that you can jump on the tram and go to the Grand Bazaar at Beyazıt-Kapalıçarşı tram stop on T1.

“Amazing place, a must visit destination for history buffs!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

Reading some of the other reviews I am glad I went to the museum before consulting Trip Advisor! Yes, the panels are all in Turkish, yes it is glorifying a battle and yes, it is probably biased and nationalistic. However you can get a very good audio guide in English and read up about the seige and conquest elsewhere to fill out your knowledge. The exhibition doesn't mention the three days of rape, looting and murder that followed the capture of the city but it's not the sort of thing that anyone would be proud of, although it was standard practise for the times.
The panorama itself is brilliant, it is the first I have ever seen but it really gives an idea of the scale of the fighting and the combination of painted battle scenes with real life artifacts in the foreground gives a real sense of depth.
