“Best position, great value, amazing hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

Basileus Hotel is perfectly placed, being just 5 minutes from the Blue Mosque, 10 minutes from the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace and a tram service (just 3TL) to ferry points and most other attractions. It is 15 minutes walk to the Grand Bazaar.
There are loads of good restaurants nearby (recommend Amedros) and the famous fish market, restaurants and Sea of Marmara are just a 10 minute walk, too. Try a half-day Bosphorus cruise including a bus ride to Pierre Lotti hill or a ferry to Princes Islands (5TL). Also visit Dolmabahce Palace and Galata tower.
The hotel has 3 floors plus a basement floor for the kitchen and dining area. The rooms are clean and very comfortable with air conditioning, fridge and tea/coffee facilities. They are all double-glazed and quiet. Breakfasts are a served in a comprehensive buffet style with omlettes to order if you wish - you won't need lunch!
The staff at Basileus must be the best in Istanbul. Ekrem, Omar, Muharrem, Mehmet, Nuri and Yusuf just cannot do enough for you - always promptly attending to every request with a smile and their advice on everything has always been spot on. They are not intrusive but always on hand to oblige if you need absolutely anything - their generosity is refreshing and you will find, as we have, that they will soon become your friends.
We have stayed twice at Basileus Hotel in the past 8 months (for a total of 15 days) and we will definitely return - hard to see how we could find anything better.
Istanbul is a fantastic city with wonderful people and so much to see and do and having a 'home' like Basileus to return to each day made our holidays there so very enjoyable.

We stayed at this excellent hotel for 6 nights when we first arrived in Turkey then for 3 nights at the end of our tour. The staff of the hotel are outstanding; they just cannot do enough for guests. The rooms are spotless, in fact we put out the 'do not disturb' sign just so our room wouldn't be serviced one day as they always change all the linen and replace all toiletries. The breakfast buffet is extensive and the omelets are delicious. In the afternoon there is a complementary selection of cakes to have with tea or coffee. There is some road noise but it quietens down in the evening and it's so much part of the Turkish life that we actually enjoyed it. The windows are double glazed so it's quiet when you close them and the air con works very well. We highly recommend this family run hotel.

Room Tip: Room 301 is lovely and it's worth the climb. We do not recommend the rooms in the basement as th...

We decided to stay with Basileus Hotel after reading all the wonderful reviews on Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed!

We arrived at the Istanbul International Airport at around 6am. There was a small episode on our pick-up from the airport but was resolved quickly. When we arrived the hotel, we were immediately invited to join their breakfast even it's before their serving hours. It was a very sweet offer especially after we had an 11-hour flight the night before.

The room was spacious, tidy and clean. The reception of wifi in our room was very smooth, which was definitely a plus.

The staff were wonderful and they gave us all the advices and tips on getting the bus tickets, picking the right restaurants and shopping. They tried their best to make our stay an amazing one.

We intended to stay with Basileus on our way back to Istanbul, but due to the recent chaos and the changes of our plans, we had to cancel our reservation and we were well aware of the T&C to be imposed on our cancellation. We sent an email to them and asked them to proceed with the charges, but we were informed later that due to the special circumstances and arrangements, we would not be charged! Honestly, this came as a surprise and we really appreciated it. Money was one of the reasons. What’s more important is their attitude and sincerity, that they truly would think from the perspectives of the customers. I truly admire this.

I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning to visit Istanbul. I myself will come back for sure.

We stayed at the Basileus for three nights based on the excellent trip advisor reviews. We were not disappointed. Our triple room was spacious with comfortable beds and spotlessly clean. Excellent buffet breakfast and sometimes there are even cakes in the lobby during the day. The staff could not have been more helpful. From waiting at the airport when our flight was an hour and a half late through to preparing a breakfast plate at 6am for our early departure. The hotel is well situated for all the major attractions in the Sultanahamet . The tram system is cheap and easy to use. The Basileus thoroughly deserve their traveller's choice award!

We are so glad we picked this place. We stayed three nights in all- one after landing in Istanbul and 2 nights after returning from our 8 day trip of other parts of Turkey. We got upgraded to a lovely room on the 1st floor for the first night and a spacious room on the ground floor for the other two nights. The rooms and bathrooms were comfortable and clean and the wi-fi was great in both rooms. The food was yum and we looked forward to breakfast every day!

The location is ideal and everything in Sultanahmet is literally 5-10 minutes away.

Ekrem and team were such good and gracious hosts! They gave us great and helpful advice on Istanbul, recommended great places to eat. It was a true pleasure to meet such nice warm people. It is people like them that make us want to go back to Turkey and we will definitely do so and stay at the Basileus again :-)

We stayed in the Basileus twice last September, for four nights each time. The second time round we had not intended to stay there at all but were so charmed by the hotel and its staff that we cancelled our reservation elsewhere and begged the Basileus to find space for us. With a lot of juggling, they managed! As indeed they managed to do everything else we requested. This is not a luxury hotel by any means - but very, very nice, and very well located.

Ekrem & Omar, the guys who run this hotel make it a truly outstanding experience. Nothing is too much trouble for them and they really go out of their way to ensure you have a great experience of Istanbul. They provide the sort of service you used to get from the concierge at a 5* hotel! Oh, and the location is great, just a few minutes walk from the Blue Mosque, the rooms are smallish but perfectly adequate and spotlessly clean. We were recommended by someone and will definitely recommend it to others.
