“FANTASTISCH!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

Great service, free non-alcoholic mini-bar, warm welcome and detailed information is given on any subject you want to know about the city and it's surroundings. The personal couldn't be more friendly. The decor is nice and comfortable and very clean. The breakfast is outstanding with a fresh omelet every day if you want.
Wifi is free and in every room available. And the location of the hotel is better than you could bargain for. A few steps to the shore of the sea of Marmara and only a 5 /10 minute walk up to the blue mosque and all the other sights in the old city. Loved the place!

What can I add to what everyone else said? This boutique hotel felt like home. The staff was incredible (they arranged taxis and drivers to and from the airports at a reasonable fee), rooms were nice and had a small balcony, breakfast was good, close to major attractions. We went to 'The Stone House' restaurant down the street twice as it was so good. Try the fresh Sea Bass caught that day in the Sea of Marmara. The restaurant directly across from the hotel was also good. There was a small sweet shop across the street where we would get some baklava to take back to the room for dessert. Next to that was a small grocery store where I bought apple tea and Turkish Delight to take back home and it was cheaper than at the Grand Bazaar or Spice Market and the owner was so appreciative for the business. Did I say how great the hotel staff were?

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street as it can get noisy.

The staff, many of them family, were the most friendly and helpful people you could imagine. The breakfast was substantial, the rooms very clean and comfortable, and it was close to everything we wanted to experience on our first visit to this ancient and exotic city. They happily helped us with every little detail we asked about.

Room Tip: we had a room with a small balcony that was pleasant

A true gem in Sultanahmet. Best service from a boutique hotel in a long time. They arranged soccer tickets, great resto recommendations, and made our trip very pleasant. A plus was the fact that the place is fairly well isolated from the call-to-prayer that goes off 5-6 times a day. Email ahead and they will arrange airport pickup for 20Euro which will get you to the hotel in 20 minutes from Ataturk. A cab will run you 30Euro and the Metro will take you 90 minutes and still cost around 5Euro per person.

We were in this hotel for a week and we're so excited with it. Room was cleaned every day, personnel were trying to be most kind, they helped us to arrange sightseeing routes every day, and breakfast was so tasty and delicious. The hotel is close to all major sights. We would recommend to everyone.

I should have written this review months ago when the details were fresher in my mind, but here is goes....Basileus Hotel is a great little hotel, good location, helpful staff (brothers?) and comfortable rooms. The hotel location really worked for us because it was a short walk up the hill to the Blue Mosque and all the other area sites (and a quick tram ride to any further sites). And the brothers gave us restaurant recommendations (near the hotel or far, tourist or local), map/directions and helped with airport transportation. Our room was on the ground floor, which was suprisingly quiet, as it was at the end of the hall away from the lobby. And we did not really hear street noise, since the hotel is on a hill/incline, the window in our room was much higher then the beds (kind of hard to explain). And the room was a good size, with a double bed and a twin, it probably could sleep 3, but we were just two friends traveling together, so it worked well for us. Breakfast was good, omlets if requested, and it was nice to have an internet terminal in the lobby, as my phone didn't have service

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room that we found roomy (DB and Twin) and surprisingly quiet.

This was a gem of a hotel and made the whole Istanbul experience wonderful. We felt like part of the family and everyone here made you feel comfortable. The room was great and the friendliness and the information was exceptional. We visited with staff when back at the hotel and it was so relaxing after a busy day out. Can't say enough about them. Have stayed many places on trips but this one is a gem. Would go back or recommend to anyone.
