Just a short distance off the very touristy beaten track of Istiklal Avenue, you will find the KumSaati Jazz Blues bar, an oasis of ultra cold beer, great live music and bucket fulls of late night fun. We visited with a group of friends from England in late May, 2013 and had a wonderful time. The enigmatic bar owner, Mehmet Oktem, sports a platinum pony tail and an Indiana Jones type hat. You won't miss him. He works the crowd like the seasoned pro and occasionally sings blues with the live bands, in a voice that sounds cooler than Dr John on an ice-flow. After chatting with him for a while, he learned that two of us were musicians - and a couple of beers later, we were up there jamming with the band!! The mixed age group crowd seemed to love it - I know we did! The music area is like a cellar bar and has that essential atmosphere that serves the blues, jazz and rock & roll so well. There is also a good sized outdoor area with tables, chairs and cushioned benches where attentive staff ensure that you are never without a drink as you chat to fellow music lovers under the stars. Don't expect fine dining: this is a music bar - a real bar, and one not to be missed if ice-cold draught Efes beer, (served in pitchers straight from the freezer) & great musicians re-creating Clapton-esque blues licks well into the early hours is your idea of a good night out. It was for us and we all went home with beaming smiles and more than a little sway in our walk!
