“Stay in Istanbul, Sirma Sultan”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

The service of especially Roberto was awesome. The hotel is situated amongts "local" businesses, which we injoyed. We became "locals" at the restaurant next door and was known by name after our 5 day stay. It's also within walking distance from all the major sites eg. The Blue Mosque, Haiga Sophia, etc.

With the delay in our flight back from Cappadocia, the staff at the hotel went out of their way to assist us in staying in contact with our shuttle service to ensure that we arrive on time at Ataturk Airport for our flight back home.

To put it very simply. Rooms at the upper floors are good value for money, but lower floors are terrible (mold, moist, no windows). Constant overbooking: i learned from the conversations between the staff, that every day they miss rooms for 2-3 quests and have to put them to another hotel or sometimes to rooms for hotel staff. Hotel staff is so accustomed to deal with angry and nervous people that they thank customers who do not shout on them after learning that they don have room.

If you feel lucky, go for it, otherwise stay away

Stayed in the annex block round the corner despite booking several months in advance and there being no indication of this when booking. View from the window was of a boiler and annex was very very noisy. Would not recommend.

I was a little skeptical for a minute, considering my taxi driver seemed to drive the same circle deep in the heart of a winding maze of a neighborhood. After sleeping off my jet lag and getting out on the town the first day, I fell in love with our little hotel!

It's a 10 minute walk from the Hippodrome entrance. As Roberto says, right, left, ok no problem! On Wednesday they had a fruit and vegetable market in the parking lot just below the outdoor cafe with the water fountain, which is great for tea and nargile on a sunny day.

Keep north at the hippodrome for another 5 minutes for the metro, which is very easy to use to get to the Galata bridge, tower and beyond. At that metro stop, across the street is the Cemberlias Hamam (turkish bath) with separate male/female steam areas and reasonably priced services!

Head west from Cemberlitas for 2 minutes to reach the Grand Bazaar!

On your 5 minute walk to the hippodrome from the hotel are at least 5 small restaurants, all reasonably priced with stellar service and the same basic menu offerings. We ate at the for dinner pretty much the whole trip as we stumbled back exhausted, dragging endless shopping bags.

If you happen to need a taxi, (and please educate yourself on possible taxi scams before doing so, I will not elaborate more here), it should not take you more than 15 turkish lira to get anywhere in the city, and I mean anywhere. Tell them you are near the Little Ayasofia Mosque (kucukayasofia), most people will know where this is.

Breakfast daily is delicious buffet of cold meats, cheeses, figs, granola, tomato/cucumber, olives, hard boiled eggs. Nice view of the shore and neighborhood.

Staff is incredibly helpful to every need. Can provide wall adapters, phone chargers, helped find laundry service nearby, carried my bags from the pharmacy, brought water to our room, and always, always smiled!

If you are looking to stay at the 4 Seasons, this is not for you. If you want to wake up to school children walking stone streets to school, go to sleep hearing the evening call to prayer, look out your window to the pulsing heartbeat of an ancient city and always walk through the door treated by shining people - please stay here!

Pleasant hotel is only ten minutes walk from the main attractions of Istanbul. If you want to feel like full-fledged citizens of the ancient city - a place created for you. You'll fall asleep and wake up to the singing of the muezzin, the cries of seagulls and street vendors. You are waiting for a delicious breakfast overlooking the Bosphorus and pleasant smiling people, always ready to come to your aid. Thanks, it was great!
