“Freshly painted - fresh lung damage”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

We stayed at this hostel for 2 nights with some friends on December 2012. A friend booked it after looking at the pictures but they were proven to be very misleading...As soon as we entered the hostel, the smell of paint penetrated our noses. After this first surprise we 've found out that there was just one bathroom for the whole floor (12 of us plus don't know how many from the rest 2 rooms). At least the bathroom was kept clean by a young guy that was also stalking us, staying outside our rooms all the time- don't know if this was a weird way of hospitality to make sure if we need something or just to spy and tell the owner what we 're doing. Really annoying though...The owner himself was quite annoying as well making comments like "don't be late at night", "don't drink alcohol" etc and was occupying the lobby with his friends all the time making it impossible for other people to stay there... Furthermore he didn't provide a genuine 24h reception service - not for asking crazy stuff but just to open the door! The furniture and the sheets were dusty and generally dirty and a friend even had himself a sheet with blood stains on! All in all, the hostel is nicely located but I would look for something better with that price...Paint smell can be very disturbing and waiting to go to the bathroom can make you lose precious time of visiting the amazing Istanbul!

I stayed with my friends for two nights and our experience was horrible.
The rooms were really dirty and they had an unbearable smell of paint, that made it impossible for someone to stay there.I had to use my asthma inhaler in order to get though the night. We have asked for ''clean'' sheets and towels, but instead one of my friends slept on a blood-stained sheet. The whole floor had only one bathroom, with broken plumbing, that we fixed ourselves in order to use it.The staff was really arrogant and rude.
You can find more decent and friendly places to stay in Istanbul. Don't let Levanten ruin your holidays.

Stayed for two night with a bunch of friends. Really bad quality of each and every piece of furniture in the establishment. A strong oil paint smell throughout the building might bother you or cause allergies if you are sensitive to it. The bathroom was fairly clean but not adequate for the number of people that were sharing it. The linens were in TERRIBLE condition. They were old, unfolded and overused with some of them having blood and other stains. The bath towels (no face towels provided) were either old worn out ones or beach towels... The management hadn't left linens on the beds and did so only after our request. Also the front desk guy seemed bothered by the number of linens asked. Other things that bothered us were the fact the there were no locks at the rooms, the guy seemed to be bothered when we came late at night (making rude comments) as well as the fact that he overcrowded the rooms with beds to accomodate all of us (no space to move). Even if the location is pretty good I would advice you to look elsewhere for something better. For sure there is something around the area...

Not the greatest hostel in the world. Poorly kept rooms without locks, tiny kitchen space with the most minimal of cooking and storage facilities. Common area is comfortable but awkwardly situated and laid out. Bathrooms and toilets are the biggest gripe. Only one of each level and they seemed forever occupied. Usually by some bloke taking hours on the toilet or some girl applying showing. The staff however, were great. Very friendly and happy to offer up information and suggestions. Relaxed vibe to the whole place and situated near Taksim Square. All in all I would look elsewhere before heading here again but you could do worse.

The hostel is a very good choice for the people looking a place with low budget. In my opinion, it's much better than the cheap options in Sultanahmet, since it's cheaper, and in a more interesting quarter during the night.
The staff is very friendly and helps a lot when planning the visits.
It's possible to eat and cook simple things at the hostel, so you can spend even less.

Staff is super friendly. Rooms are clean & there are lockers to put valuables.
However - there are about12 people per floor, and only one bathroom per floor. Toilet is in the same room as the shower, so you usually are waiting for the shower. Our shower drain was backed up and it was pretty disgusting. Once, a staff member came to use our bathroom as all the other ones must have been occupied. There wasn't toilet paper... and even after she used the restroom & had to have noticed there was no tp, it was not replaced until late that evening.

There's free wifi and a decent 'family room' with couches, but I was happy to get out of there.

Staff are very friendly and helpful and are there 24/7 for your needs. Rooms are basic but very clean...we didn't have a fan but we asked at reception and they were more than happy to give us one. The bathrooms are fairly clean, but be prepared to queue! Didn't always have hot water, but that wasn't too bad in August in Istanbul! Good location, just off Taksim square and tram in easy walking distance, and for the price we were very happy to stay there for 3 nights.
