“Great people and location, old style European room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2011

What makes Sultan House so great is the staff. As they said, "think of this as home, not a hotel." Everything we asked of them, they did with a smile. They were full of suggestions, help and humor. My daughter stayed at a nearby youth hostel and they welcomed and helped her, even allowed her to nibble breakfast, without a thought. The hotel is about 2 blocks from the main square in Sultanahmet, near Topkapi and Hagia Sophia. You do need to be prepared for very small rooms, and tiny bathrooms, though. You can not get two people in the bathroom. The bed's blankets don't cover a 6 foot person. It is very old style European, with cramped accommodations, but clean. They serve breakfast, but don't have a restaurant, just an eating area. No pool or exercise. Again, just a classic "vertical" small European style hotel. So, even though the room was small, the ambiance, vibe and people made it a wonderful stay.

Once arrived late at night, we were welcomed very friendly. The Blue Mosque is just a couple steps away and you can walk to basically all the attractions in Sultanahmet and also to the Bazar. The room was clean, the size ok and the breakfast is very nice. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

We spent there three nights. The hotel is clean and neat, the staff are helpful and the self-service breakfast is ok. There's lots of leaflets, maps etc. available to the guests at the reception. However, the room we had booked was in the basement (I hadn't noticed that while booking the room, though the website mentions that) and it was dark (had only a window vent) and rather cold. 90 euros for such a room is too much, plus we were woken up 6 a.m by the noises from the kitchen, which is located next to that room. When we changed it for a 2-nd floor room, it was fine, though 20 euros more expensive. Overall, we were pleased to have chosen Sultan House thanks to its location, cleanness and, most of all, its great location. What is noteworthy, the hotel sorrounding is quiet, which is an advantage too.

Sultan House Hotel is a gem, close to wonderful sites such as the Blue Mosque & Haga Sophia. The owners are friendly & helpful; the rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable.

We arrived at noon and was well taken care of. we were offered a cup of coffee on arrival and it was a good start to stay. We were welcomed and referred to our rooms.
The hotel is operated by a sweet Turkish family in a good spirit manages to create a good atmosphere around his guests.
Always a smiling welcome and in the evening when some of the Turkish clubs playing people gather at the big screen in the restaurant and look at in a nice atmosphere.
There was cleaned every day of our rooms and prepared beds and it was nice to come home tired to a nice room.
The hotel is very centrally located in Sultanahmet area.
The hotel is also child-friendly in the sense that the staff provides children with an attention which is very personal, which bear the imprint of the hotel is family driven.
It is clearly a hotel that is worth visiting if you like small hotels with a personal touch and charm.
Many thanks for a wonderful stay
best regards

From the moment we stepped in we were treated like VIP's.The hotel is very neat & clean with an artistic touch. We stayed in the pent house which was very elegent. The hotel is very very near to the tram line, shopping areas, restaurants, cafes and all the historical places for which we have visited Istanbul. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. They made us feel like Home away home...I really thank Yunus for giving recommendation on places to visit and their especialities. My one year old daughter was very fond of him and Ms Hadia who loved her the same... Thanks guys for the hospitality given to us. We definately will stay again in this hotel if we visit Istanbul again. Insha Allah.

Room Tip: Pent house the best as it has a beautiful view.
