“Dinner with a local Family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

My Wife and I were not totally sure what we had signed up for and were pleasantly surprised with the tour. We were met by a local guide at the prearranged place and then we did the smoking a water pipe side of the tour, this was interesting especially as we are both non smokers but had a go as you do not inhale so it was more for the aroma which turned out to be OK.

This was followed up with a visit to a Mosque which was next door, this was an operational Mosque and was probably the best we had seen in all of Turkey.

We then strolled to the house of our host and as it was Ramadan we sat and talked until sundown via the guide as the folks did not know any English. This was followed with a lovely meal and was very enjoyable, not only was the food tasty but we learned some of the local etiquette.

We spoke about their family and what they did for a living and the effects of Ramadan on the cooking as our host could not taste test to ensure the meal was satisfactory. Also on what the children were doing as this was right in the middle of school summer break.

I can highly recommend this tour.

Mark and Joy.

“A Night to Remember”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2014

We visited the home of a Turkish family near Sultanahmet with our guide. We sat on the floor and ate traditional Turkish food prepared by the wife and neighbour. Although they had no English our guide Emir Sagir translated our questions to the family. It was great to be able to participate and meet the children and learn more about their culture. We then had a tour of their house and our guide walked us through the local shopping area to a bakery where we selected pastries and then walked to a small cafe to eat our pastries and enjoy our Turkish tea. The cafe was adjacent to the Little Haggia Sophia Mosque and after prayers we were taken inside to see the mosque. No other tourists just our guide and a one on one question and answer session. This tour was really well worth it. A must do when in Istanbul

“Perfect for Quick Trip in Istanbul”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2014

This is the perfect tour to do on your FIRST DAY in Istanbul especially if you are only staying for a short time. It gives you good orientation of the old city where most of the tourist attractions are. You either pass by or go inside all of the "top 10 things to see in Istanbul" so you can go back to the ones where you want to spend more time after the tour. Our guide Erkan was really knowledgeable and helpful and I appreciated the way the tour took you on back roads and small streets so you got a good feel for the real community. Wear comfortable shoes.

A few things to note:
1) You go inside the Blue Mosque and Sultanahmet Mosque and the Grand Bazaar and Spice Bazaar but not the Aya Sofia or the Basilica Cistern. Those last two are right next to each other though so you can easily go back after the tour since the tour ends around 1.
2) You need a couple hours and a dedicated tour for the Topkapi Palace, we passed through the grounds on this tour but didn't go in - that's a separate event if you want to do it.

“Street food picnic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2014

Had a lovely picnic with bread rings, cheeses, olives, pressed meat, dried fruit and aryan gathered from the Spice Bazaar, as well has hot chestnuts and fresh orange juice picked up in the way to Gulhane Park. Thanks to Salih for gathering the picnic and sharing a wonderful afternoon in conversation about life in Istanbul and Turkey with us.
