“Very Nice Modern Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2011

Very nice modern hotel.
Tram stop located directly outside the hotel.
Very well decorated/furnished bedroom.
Bathroom not upto 5* standard.
Located in Beyazit.
5-10min walk to Grand Bazaar.
15-20min walk to Blue Mosque.
Probably prefer to stay in Sultanahmet next time.
Disappointed there was no pool.
Due to location, no views.

The location is really good. Right on the tram line. We didn't use it as we were touring around the area and was able to walk to all the major sites. For all the highlights of Istanbul it is an excellent location.
We had a King Guest room. The room is small but very clean, modern and new. The TV is crappy with poor reception and few TV channels in English but then we were not really there to watch TV. The beds are FANTASTIC. The shower is a nice size but has a removable shower head so it is a bit difficult to get it to stay in the correct position for a really good shower.
The staff was friendly and spoke English very well.
DO NOT eat breakfast in the hotel unless your hotel stay includes it in the room price. It was good but it was an OUTRAGEOUS price for a buffet and there is no other option. Dinner was quite expensive. The food was tasty though not overly hot. We had only appetizers and shared them. From observing diners around us the main courses seemed somewhat small for a high price.

My family of four (parents with two adult children) stayed here for several days in October. From the moment we checked in we were impressed with the level of service. Even with our difficult reservation (some days on points, some paid, two rooms) the woman who checked us in was friendly, helpful and efficient. She even let us previw the rooms and offered to have us check in early. The rooms are newly rennovated and lovely. The best part is the location. It's directly across the street and down 1/2 block from the tram which takes you into all of the tourist sites. It's about $1.00 a ride. A few hints: the sites are all within walking distance of up to 25 minutes if you want to walk one way and take the tram back to the hotel. Indulge in a Turkish bath. We went to Cerembalitis(sp) which is 10 minutes from the hotel. It was quite the experience.

Room Tip: Get a room with an "outside" view. Otherwise it's like a holidaydome where the rooms...

Stayed here for 3 nights, booked through Expedia prepaid and with breakfast.

Location is good; Grand Bazar, Blue Mosque, Topkapi, Hagia Sophia etc., all within walking distance. Tram right outside going to either the airport or into the area with all the sights and to the other side of Istanbul (Taksim, Shopping Centres etc;).

It looks like the place just got a full hard refurbishment, lobby, restaurant(s) and rooms seems all fresh and new, very trendy, clean and nice. The room we had was very small, looked like the new fittings was not really designed for that size of room. This was not a major problem, but a little more "floor" space would have been nice - it was almost an acrobatic excercise to use the in room safe.

They have everything like in a "real" Hilton, turndown service, newspaper in the room in the morning, fresh orange juice, same ameneties and bathproducts, complementary water etc., guess the only reason it is not branded as a Hilton is either the room size or something to do with brand strategy. But who am I to complain about that.

Service was excellent, especially in the restaurant on the top floor (we received a voucher of 50%) and actually we went there twice, good views, good food, good ambiance and good service. The bar staff in the lobby area was not the fastest, and it seemed like this was a part time job for the waiters in the connected breakfast restaurant. I think they could sell more if it was staffed properly. The business center looked good, only used it for boarding cards.

Room Tip: Ask for the biggest they have :-))

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for taking your time to share these good comments.

We are glad to see that you enjoyed your stay in our hotel. We always endeavour to offer the highest level of service and appreciate your valuable opinions.

I would like to say that because of the different concepts of the two brands, our Hotel is branded as DoubleTree. But in terms of service, we are on the same level with the Hilton brand.

We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

The location surely is the key selling point here. It's a stone's throw from the Grand Bazaar, with plenty of shops and ATMs around. A 10-minute downhill walk will take you to all the sights in Sultanahmet: Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and Aya Sofya etc. We did stroll back but for the less willing feet, there's a tram stop right in front of the hotel with the journey from Sultanahmet taking merely 5 minutes.

The room is not huge but perfectly adequate for a short stay (a casual visitor won't need more than 4 days in Istanbul, in my humble opinion), with the bathroom disproportionally roomy which I like. I believe the hotel is fairly new and certainly felt that way during our stay as everything worked without a glitch.

The hotel staff were by and large courteous and helpful, although I thought the body scan was a bit superfluous but must stress it was by no means burdensome nor intrusive.

General amenities are satisfactory:
- Three computers with printing facilities (free, I believe) on the first floor. Wifi isn't free but the charge fairly minimal, if I remember correctly.
- The rooftop terrace is pleasant enough for a drink before heading out for dinner
- The gym is small but nice enough for gentle workout
- Very generous breakfast (by European standard)

Predictably, the culinary scene is kebab-centric and after 2 days, I defy you not to crave for something other than skewered meat! That said, you must under no circumstances leave Istanbul without a visit to Zübeyir Ocakbasi (close to Taksim Square in Beyoglu): simply the best kebabs I've ever tasted...

If you really can't stomach more kebabs, Mosaik Restaurant in the thick of Sultanahmet would be a safe bet: good food, English-speaking waiting staff and reasonably priced. Balikci Sabahattin, which focuses on seafood and fresh fish from the surrounding waters, is another lovely antidote to all the chargrilled meat.

Great location, a few blocks from Gran Bazaar and 15 minutes walking to the Ayasofia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi. Tram station front of the hotel. Rooms nicely decorated, and the suite well equipped and clean. All we needed for a lovely 4 nights we found them here. Beds were so comfortable. Employees always pending on our needs. Free internet at the computer hotel. Connectivity cheap comparing with other Doubletree. My next trip I will choice the same hotel.

Room Tip: Suites are big and very practical.

Great new hotel near grand bazar. Rooms are nicely appointed but the comfort of the beds deserves 6stars. Not too many restaurants in immediate surrounding area apart from tourist traps. For a mote local experience jump on the tram or walk to sulthanamet. If you are heading to the cruise port and do not have mountains of luggage, taking the tram is the most efficient way. It's a 3 min walk toncruisevterminal from nearest tram stop. BEWARE whe you return from a cruise, the taxis that linger around the port are not your normal metered taxis! Their prices are outrageous 30 euros and more for a short distance. We were told that it's a sort of taxi mafia for the port that is somewhat tolerated by local authorities.
