“Very nice modern hotel with fantastic views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2012

Superb location, for ferrys to the old town, and I recommend the fast ferry from/to the airtport.
Views are fantastic over the Bosphorus and over to the Old Town.
Only downside is that the traffic can bea bit chaotic, due to some road layout works going on in the area, and general trafiic congestion you expect in Istanbul.
Hotel staff were very friendly from the reception staff to the waiters.
Rooms are clean (obviously new... I guess the hotel is less than 12 months old) and well equipped, with tea/coffee making facilities.

Room Tip: All Views are exceptional, but I would recommend a view of the Bosphrous / Old Town

I had the chance to stay at Double Tree by Hilton - Moda on 28th of January and to be honest, it was one of the best experiences for accomodation. The welcoming of the staff was perfect, the hotel was very clean and comfy.

This is a 5star hotel with an amazing sea view so my expectations was high and honestly all my expectations were satisfied.

You already feel the attitude during check-in, when the receptionist treats you wt their special warm chocolate chip cookie! The rooms are so uniquely and comfortably designed, location is great (3 min walk to Bosphorus and also main pedestrian street). The only negative thing is service at breakfast (you need to call waiters several times to finally get your tea/coffee).

Having stayed here for 3 days, as well as the Doubletree Old Town, I can give you a true review.

First, the good points:

1) The room are fantastic. Large, well appointed. You will not be disappointed with them except see below.

2) The staff are great.

3) Kadikoy is a read Turkish town and you will get a great feeling from it and there are some great restaurants there.

4) The hotel has some very nice facilities, but also see below.

If you are relatively young and active, you will enjoy this hotel. The Ferry ride is fast, efficient and a pleasure. If you are pressed for time in Istanbul, then you will need every minute and perhaps you might want to stay in Old Town or Eminenu.

Now, the few issues -

First, stepping into the bathtub is really high, so if you are elderly or have mobility problems, you might have problems getting into the bathtub/shower. Second, the bathrub/shower has a curtain/shade that does up and down so if you want to see the Bospherus from the bathtub, you can. However, if someone goes to the bathroom in the middle of the night and turns on the light, it will seriously light up the room.

Last, if you are planing to swim, you must bring your own bathing cap, or you will have to buy one for about USD 13...this is a bummer if you don't bring one. The pool is nice, but there were working on it when we were visiting and my kids were really upset.

So, bottom line is that the hotel facility and staff are fabulous. But, there are a few things you should know about where it is located, the bathtub and room.

BTW, the breakfast is pretty good as well.

If you are deciding on between the Doubletree Old Town and Moda, they are both nice hotels and better than any Hilton in the U.S. If you want to be right in the middle of the tourist area and need convenience, then you should go with the Old Town. if you want to be away from the tourist area and have some to spare, then stay at Moda. We broke it us and enjoyed it.

Room Tip: Ask for a seaview

just 400 m to asian centre of istanbul, boats to old city and also to europe, view of marmara sea and topkapı palace from the sea-side rooms, smoking oppurtunity and tea/coffee set in your room, too long water seperator for the bathtube as no flat place for your foot while stepping in and had an accident as I skipped,no answer back from the hotel during the 8 months since I wrote down about my accident and even draw a stech of the seperator and advised how to solve the problem,so take care of your step......

Room Tip: sea-side higher flat than 5

We stayed at the Hilton Doubletree Istanbul - Moda for 4 nights during our week long trip to Turkey. Overall, we were very happy with the service, location, staff, cleanliness and comfort. Below, are some specific points with respect to our experience.

Arrival:
We arrived at 8:00 am on the morning of our check-in. Although check-in time is not until Noon, the hotel staff made all efforts to accommodate our early arrival and we were able to get a room before 10:00 am, which allowed us to freshen up before making our way over to the city for a day of sightseeing. Our Greeter Karem was extremely helpful upon arrival and made arrangements for us to have complimentary tea/coffee and wifi while we waited for our room to be ready.

The room:
We had booked the King room with deluxe view for our first 3 night stay and the king room for our last night at the hotel. The deluxe view room was certainly bigger, but we still found it to be a tight fit with our 4 pieces of luggage. Since the hotel was only 4 months old at the time of our visit, the rooms were in great shape. Our room had an excellent view of the old city, day or night. The only issue we had with this room is that on our second day we noted an odd smell coming from the bathroom, somewhat like mold or mildew (possibly from a water leak). After asking the front desk staff to investigate, they offered us another deluxe view room, but this time with a view of the Bosphorus only and not the old city. On the third day we were moved back to a room with full view of the old city, as promised by the Hotel Manager. Although, anyone would consider it a hassle to switch between 3 rooms in 3 nights, the attention given to us by the hotel staff and particularly the Manager to address the issue made up for it.

Breakfast:
The breakfast was great, with tons of fresh fruits, veggies, olives, pickles, meat, breads, muffins, pastries, cereal and coffee/tea/juice. The kitchen offered fresh eggs & waffles made to order. We had booked our room via expedia and booked the room & breakfast package. However, we were presented with a bill for breakfast 3 out of the 4 mornings we had breakfast at the hotel. I guess most guests do not have breakfast included with their stay and therefore the wait staff would present each guest with a bill by default. The issue was addressed each time by explaining to the wait staff, who then confirmed with the front desk that our breakfast was included.

Hotel Location:
The hotel is located in the Kadikoy area of Istanbul on the Asian side. At first we were concerned whether this would be a good location given the purpose of our trip was to see historical Istanbul, which is mostly on the European side. Access to the European side was quite convenient, as the hotel is less then a 10 minute walk from the Kadikoy ferry dock with ferries to Eminnou (European side) departing every 15 mins and the trip was about 20 mins. The one-way fare per person was 1.4TL and the fare tokens were easy to obtain from machines located at the ferry docks. There is also a fast ferry that departs Kadikoy for Bakirkoy via Yenikapi. Bakikoy is a 10 min drive from Ataturk international airport and there are taxis and buses available upon disembarking from the ferry, which offers a much cheaper alternative to a taxi when travelling from Kadikoy to Ataturk Airport (given you're not pulling around a lot of luggage!). We tried the fast ferry when travelling to and from the airport for a 3-day trip to the Izmir region and found it to be punctual, comfortable and very reasonably priced.

Although Kadikoy is not the touristy part of Istanbul and it might be difficult to communicate with the local population (unless you speak Turkish!), we were able to get by without any problems. We ate out every night, trying something different each time. The local food joints were very reasonably priced (compared to the European side) and offered the authentic Turkish cuisine we were craving.

Airport Transfer:
As mentioned above, there is the option of taking the fast ferry from Ataturk Airport. However, if you've got more then 1 piece of luggage per person, a taxi might be the better option. We took a cab on our way to the hotel early on a Sunday morning and the cost was about 60 TL. However, the trip to the airport was much longer and cost about 100TL. Upon questioning the driver, he explained that he took the longer route to avoid traffic, but we're not sure if that was really the case. However, it is always best to agree on a fare before hand if possible. Also, if using the fast ferry from Kadikoy to Bakirkoy, keep in mind that he taxis running from Bakirkoy to the airport will likely take multiple fares (4 passengers) to the airport and it's advisable to clarify the fare per passenger.

Hotel staff:
We found the staff to be very helpful and attentive and most if not all were able to communicate in English. The Hotel Manager was very helpful in telling us about the fast ferry to the airport and even assisted us with online check-in for our domestic flight to Izmir and called Turkish Airlines on our behalf to try to upgrade our booking back to Toronto. We were also able to leave some of our luggage in the hotel's secure storage while we travelled to the Izmir area for a few days (given we were coming back to the hotel for 1 night before departing Turkey).

Overall:
We were very happy with our stay at the Hilton Doubletree Istanbul - Moda. It is an excellent new addition to Istanbul, and for any future trips to Istanbul, we will definitely consider this hotel again.

I have stayed in this Hotel for 3 nights at corner king room with sea view at 9th floor. The location of the hotel a little bit isolated area from the most common areas. The hotel is at the Anatolian provience of the Istanbul. The most famous area of this part of the town is Bagdat Avenue. The hotel is really isolated from that kind of area. At the around of the hotel you can find old historical streets and local reastaurants but area is a little bit low budget. Hotel is very closer to the Kadikoy Pier and Kadikoy Haydarpasa Train Station. The room prices are very good. Breakfast is rich and tasty. There is a heliport facility just next of the hotel, so you can arrange heli transfer from next of the hotel. Its not a good idea for tourist in my mind. If you dont have business around, i m not advicing this hotel.

Room Tip: Corner King Room Has a Gerat Sea View
