We booked 2 weeks to stay in the 2nd floor Burak Residence flat, but left after one night, and are still trying to get our deposit back.
We booked through Istanbul Rentals (www.istanbulrentals.com), based on the pictures on the website. However upon arrival very quickly it was clear that the building had been 'renovated' since the photos were taken. The renovations have made the rooms smaller! removing the 'suite' sitting area and adding some of the cheapest and worst interior decor ever.
The room was not very clean, bits of rubbish beneath furniture and in draws etc... But as it was late, we decided to stay and sort it out in the morning. However after a sleepless night, we walked out.
The residence backs onto the main Istanbul train route, there is 'double glassing' but it is cheaply installed and not sufficient to block any of the train noise, the owner told us the trains stop at 11pm, that night the last train was 1:55am and the next one was at 5:40am.
The curtains in the flat are the sort that are only for show, even if they reached all the way across the windows, they would not block out any light. The kitchen is simple and functional, however of the two fridges, one did not work, and smelled like it had not worked in a while. The bathroom is modern, and would have been a plus if not for the fact the shower screen had been broken, we found bits of broken glass still on the bathroom floor.
On the Plus: The view is fantastic looking out to sea, the top floor flat we saw looks much nicer than the others (but again is now smaller than it was when the pictures on IR website were taken). Also the manager was so kind and friendly (unlike the people at Istanbul Rentals who are not to be trusted), he tried very hard to make us happy and to solve our issues, we almost stayed in the flat despite everything... Almost...
The flat was sold to us by Istanbul Rentals, as being a premium self catering studio flat, we were supposed to be paying over 600 euros a week for it! We felt that the flat had been majorly over-sold by istanbulrentals.com, but they still refuse to see that they have done anything wrong, and still publish old pictures of the flat, showing it to be at least 1/3rd bigger than it actually is!!
