We stayed in the hotel end of July for almost a week and in principle we enjoyed the hotel and the city very much.
The good things first!
The hotel is very clean and very well being taken care of.
The staff is friendly and helpful (see also my comments below).
The rooms can be spacious (but not all of them are).
The location is nice (ONLY duriing the daylight)
The breakfast is fine and the rooftop bar ok (the view is better than the drinks).
Now to the more negative things...
We had booked (and paid) the deluxe room with a sew view and expected a nice big room with a view to Sultanahmet. HOWEVER, the first room given to us was rather small and had only a tiny window.
After some discussion with the reception, we were offered a corner room to the street, which is rather noisy and the view rather poor. Only because we demanded to get what we have booked, we were finally given a great room with a fantastic view (room name: "Istanbul").
In the end, we were very happy with our room, but we had to put up a bit of a fight.
The windows do not shut completely, so you do have some street noise. However, it is not so bad.
The only other negative thing is the location in the night. It is not really the hotel's fault, but the streets around the hotel have almost no lights, not a singly person is on the sidewalk and walking to the small streets uphill can be somewhat scary. It is in general a rather safe neighborhood, but I would not walk there alone at night.
During the day, it is a busy business street with lots of small stores and not scary at all!
Asking the reception whether it is safe to walk in the night the reply was: "It might be dangerous". And right after he was trying to convince us to take a shuttle to a restaurant the hotel is obviously working with. Cannot really blame him, but I felt he wanted to scare us so we go to this certain restaurant. Later, after returning, I asked another guy at the reception, who told me the neighborhood is generally safe.
I also thinkg it is safe, but still scary in the night. In any case, taxis are cheap and it is not a reason for me not to book in this hotel again.
So, overall a good hotel. the price is fair. I would go the again.
Corner room with windows so big you can watch the skyline of Sultanhament from your bed.

Dear Mr. Koslowski,

Thank you for staying at Istanbul Golden City Hotel and sharing your review on Trip advisor. And many thanks for the positive comments too.
We apologize for inconvenience you experienced upon your arrival with the rooms. I thing there was a problem due to our availibilty. I’m glad to hear that our staff at the reception had solved the problem. You can be sure that we will do everything better for you on your next stay.
Our hotel is located in midtown area on a very well known highlited trafic part of town and it can be noisy outside during busy day time. We usually offer rooms on the back side of the building overlooking the Golden Horn to noise sensitive guests upon their special request. We understand your sensitivity regarding noise and put this information to your profile in our system.
We have investigated your comment about the safety of the street where our hotel placed and found it incorrect. I don’t know what you mean with the small streets and where you walked , because our hotel placed on a biggest and very known street, so it is every time safety and everywhere are a lot of streets lamps. So there is no reason to get in dangerous.
So, we sincerely hope to see you once more at our hotel and we thank you very much again for your feedback.
