They really made an effort to give this hotel a trendy look, the hotel just screams art-deco. It depend on your taste if you like it or not. The rooms although clean and new (very recently restored/renewed hotel) were very very small and noisy. The biggest plus to this hotel is it's location in Taksim. Lots of stores, sights and public transportation in walking distance. I personally did not find the staff helpful and polite in the Turkish sense, but then again I can't really say they have been rude either. Breakfast was i.m.o. worth skipping, boring and very limited. In Turkey, one must enjoy a solid, good old Turkish breakfast.
We got a good deal on this hotel, not costing more than 30 Euro's per night (def. worth it) so all in all I can call it a good experience.
I know it really does not have anything to do with the hotel, but from my room I look straight at the young boy standing outside, in front of the hotel all day, sniffing glue from a plastic bag. It was really difficult to look at and shows the contrasts of a city like Istanbul (extreme wealth-extreme poverty and everything in between). I've seen several failed attempts by the hotel staff to send this kid away.. every morning he was there again.
