“Old Town = Historic Istanbul = Sultanahmet district”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

These TA categories all refer to the same thing, the core of what makes Istanbul such a rich tourist destination. Here is where you will find the top-10 sights; the top-10 restaurants; the top-10 bazaars, etc, and the quintessential sights, sounds and smells of Istanbul.

If you are thinking of staying in the New Town north of the Golden Horn, then please reconsider, unless you are more interested in boutiques, designer fashion and chic accessories.

“Istanbul - a top-10 city!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

Very pleasantly surprised. This ranks with London, Paris, Rome and Barcelona any day; perhaps better for those who place a high value on variety and new types of experiences.

If your travel has been confined to 'western' destinations and/or you are disturbed by different cultures and ambiance, then you might not rank Istanbul so high = obvious Islam; scruffy; chaotic; crowds; language; Rome-style dirty. I found these to be part of the charm and the experience.

I was fascination by the inner tension between traditional Islam and the push to modernise in a Western sense. Why do some woman use a scarf head cover, others not, and some wear burkas? In my view dining is overrated in quality but is still excellent value. Haggling and the estimate of value is a challenge - ask around; seek advice from other travellers; learn the REAL tricks of bargaining.

“Everything is of interest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

An amazing city with a fantastic history. No need to take tours except by boat. Walking through the streets, looking at mosques, palace, and museums. Lots of places to sit and have a cup of coffee or a drink. Rick Steven's guidebook is indispensible.

“THE BEST TRAVEL EXPERIENCE IN TURKEY THANKS TO ARGEUS TOURS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

Just came back from a week in Turkey, organized by Edip from Argeus Tours.

They did an extraordinary job, from email communications, to selection of hotels and tour guides in Istanbul. Ephesus and Capadoccia.

I can't imagine a more perfect way to visit this gloriously beautiful country
