“Made our Istanbul holiday memorable !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Simply outstanding food. And brilliant service to accompany it. The food was flavourful, well cooked, well presented and good sized portions. The Acili Salad with its yummy dressing, Adana Kebab, Pistacho Kebab and Shish Tavuk were excellent and I'm sure the rest of the menu would have been just as good. We went back there three times in six days - a record for us as a family. Each time we were greeted by huge smiles and friendly banter by the wonderful Fahreddin, Oguz and Mohammed, making our meals a great experience

“Hidden jewel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

> I found the Buhara on the Lonely Planet Guide, trying to escape the maddening crowd and the too many tourist traps that abound in Sultanahmet.
Actually finding the restaurant is a bit more difficult, but not impossible, just 650 meters from the Blue Mosque, and close to the Grand Bazaar.
Once you find it, you are welcomed in a very very friendly way: service is quick and kind (even a bit too much).
You find beer (and in Istanbul is very difficult, which makes me crazy), and very good kebab: try the Testi Kebab (cooked in a pot broken with a knife in front of you just before serving), or Urfa Kebab, with lamb and veal meat.
Price is competitive, they also like football, so we ended with a friendship toast between Genoa and Besiktas: what more ??

“Great kebab in Sultanahmet - it IS possible to find just that”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

Staying in Sultanahmet near all the attractions comes at a price: restaurants are mostly of so-so quality, the menus look like they've all been copied from the same cookbook and they're way too expensive.
But, having read the reviews of Buhara it seemed that it's still possible to get good food and great service at a reasonable price so expectations very pretty high - and we were not disappointed!

Muhammet took great care of us and so did the chef whose menu includes more than just the run-of-the-mill dishes. I had the minced lamb kebab with pistachio nuts which was great but it was surpassed by my wife's which was an Adana-style kebab served on a paste of yogurt/aubergine/garlic. I've been to Turkey many times and tried many different things, and this was probably the best Turkish dish I've ever had (even beats Iskender kebab which I love).

In summary: if you're staying in Sultanahmet you don't have to go across the Golden Horn or Bosporus to find high quality kebab at a reasonable price, just go to Buhara a 5-minute walk from Hagia Sophia.

“There are better places”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2013

Dined here on advice of reviews. My husband and grandson thought it was just OK. For me, not being keen on salad, it was poor and our waiter (who I think was the Manager) had a real attitude problem when he was asked to alter anything. I gained the impression it was take it or leave it. So I decided to leave it because it was just a few pieces of meat on chopped up bread with a large quantity of a tomato based sauce on top. It was our first night in Istanbul and we were looking for the welcoming staff and good food reported. Sorry we could not recommend this place.
