“Comfortable, Clean with friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2012

Spent a great bank holiday weekend here- walking distance from the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia, situated in a slightly more residential place. Breakfast on the rooftop, watching the sunrise was a great surprise. We had the junior suite (cheapest room) and thus did not have sea view - but wasnt an issue. Room itself was spacious, clean, bathroom was in good condition with new facilities. had the privacy we wanted, and ability to go in and out the apartments as we wanted. Definitely recommend this accommodation, but perhaps sea views would have been better :)

Room Tip: Junior suite had no views - better to pay bit extra to be moved to 1st, 2nd floors with amazing sea...

Boutique hotels provide a thorough room cleaning service every day, including replenishing of bathroom amenities, floor sweeping and general cleaning. Hot water is on tap in boutique hotels, particularly in the morning and at night, and reception is never abandoned so that guests are left floundering with no-one to help them. None of these can be found at the Mangana Konak, which is not worth the money nor the self-titled "boutique" moniker.

Terrible value and simply cannot recommend. The good points first - the location is fine and it is a relatively easy walk to the Sultanahmet area to the mosques and other sights. It also has a nice view of the sea from its rooftop and room balcony.

Now the not so good - we had one of their "suites" for three days/nights - while they made the bed (this involved pulling up the duvet only as there was no top sheet) and changed the towels, they did not otherwise clean the room so maid service worked out to about 2 minutes a day. We were not given soap for the bathroom and there was no hot water for showers at night. In addition, they seem to have some families actually living there in the building so the hallways are filled with shoes and other personal items left by the full time residents. It is also quite noisy as a result. While our "suite" had a kitchenette, which they advertise, it is not stocked with cutlery or plates or other kitchen necessities so it is essentially useless.

You are also very much on your own as the small desk at the entrance rarely has any staff and there is no office. We needed as mentioned soap for our bathroom but there was noone to ask. We had a big problem with our bill and they had to call someone to come from another "hotel". They did not even have the facility to provide for a receipt. Service was quite simply non-existent. Finally, we ordered airport pick-up but they never ever even bothered to show up. In the end we made it by taxi but it was a little disappointing after a long haul overnight flight from Asia.

This hotel would be fine if one is looking for budget accommodation with the expectations that go with that but the rates for this hotel are simply not in line with what is provided - or not provided as the case may be. There are far better choices in Istanbul where one can get far better value and service for money.

We had to come here after an unfortunate experience at Akin Hotels. Although it was a 10 minute walk from the mosque the rooms were really spacious, there was a balcony on both sides of the room with a view of the mosque and sea. The bath had a jaccuzzi function. It was very clean. The breakfast was fresh and tasty. Although it was basic the staff were friendly and went out of their way to organise trips and taxis for us.
