“Good hotel and location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

I have spent three days in this hotel for vacation. The room are clean and with two beds not too small. Instead in three persons the room are very tiny. The receptionists are pretty helpful, although you need to explain more time what are the problems. It is located very well, near metro stop and not far from Aya Sofia and blue Mosque. Near the hotel there is a beautiful small square with many tipical restaurants. Finally, I suggest this hotel.

Very clean, comfortable rooms, delicious breakfast included on rooftop with views of the city and the Sea of Marmara, super-friendly staff, attractive old building. We had a room on the street but the noise died down around 10:30 or so, and we slept well. The fish restaurants just around the corner are a scene not to be missed at dinnertime. The food is great also. Prepare for a bit of a climb--though an interesting one--to the main street that leads to many of the attractions, a lot of which are in walking distance.
I highly recommend this hotel, and would stay there if we return to Istanbul, which I certainly hope we will.

Nice clean hotel. Good location, a walk to everything, but straight up hill. Breakfast was okay, nothing special, amazingly not fresh juice, maybe powdered stuff. The first night we were on the top floor in the smallest room we have ever seen. The road out front was sooo noisy with everyone constantly honking their horns, it was insane. The next day we were moved to a slightly larger room in the back over reception, yikes. The night staff talked loudly all night and set up a tv right under our window with the volume at full blast. After being asked to turn the volume down it would go back up about 15 minutes later! Behind the hotel is a street full of huge restaurants that fill every night. What a racket, drums banging, singing etc. until about 2a.m. The description online is not accurate, somewhat misleading, says rooms have balconies, no, rooms have separate sitting area, no. A very steep staircase at the entrance might be a challenge for some people. The mini bar menu had beer at 3.5 Lira but we were charged 8 at checkout. We are not usually fussy but for some reason a lot of things added up to annoy us. After walking everywhere all day we were tired at night but we never got a decent sleep because of the night staff noise, and the street of restaurants, and that is not a good thing.

Room Tip: Ask to see the rooms before you settle in, we ahd to move everything the next day

A small relaxed hotel with friendly efficient staff . Breakfast (and dinner) served on the terrace was plentiful with a variety of fresh fruits , eggs cheese and meats etc. Plenty to start off the day. we ate one evening meal( they had just started evening meals) which was tasty and certainly better priced than the surrounding local restaurants. The inner facing room was quiet but smaller than the road facing rooms where according to our friend traffic noise etc began at about 6.30am.
Location was good being near the tram way for connection to the airport and the Grand bazaar and the other major tourist sites but be prepared for the steep climb up the hill.

Room Tip: rooms facing the courtyard are quieter but smaller.

The Amber Hotel is an really nice restored ottoman mansion located in the east of the Sultanahmet area. One particular receptionist was super friendly and helpful, the rest of the staff are not so friendly. If you are ok with noise than its ok because you feel the ambience of Istanbul but if you trouble sleeping with noise this is not for you. The rooms were smallish and clean the bed comfortable and AC was efficient. Breakfast was sufficient. It is close to the centre but you have to walk up an 8 minute steep road then within 5 to 15 minutes you reach the city's landmarks easily. The hotel is not really 4 star ..more like a 3 star but reasonably priced. Behind there are over 200 fish restaurants which are good but BEWARE they will all try to add hefty service charges and bring the bill skyhigh. Agree BEFORE to avoid these extra charges. DO NOT BE SHY ..they are not..avoid wine its expensive and of medium quality.

Room Tip: If you cant sleep in a noisy area avoid this hotel
