We stayed here as part of an extended (three day) layover en route to a central Asian location. The airport location isn't really convenient to anything - not even the airport. While the property offers free hotel shuttle service, it is located sufficiently far away from the airport to make it not exactly ideal due to the heavy highway traffic. The shuttle took about 30 minutes or so to navigate the crowded highways during rush hour. The return trip (to the airport) was very late at night and was a breeze. But - do consider the affect of rush hour when you are planning your transportation.
The hotel itself is very nice looking though the level of security is enough to almost make you wonder if there's something you don't know about. The security at this property was the most scrutinous of all three places at which we've now stayed in Istanbul. The rooms were quite decently sized (see the "picking a room" section below) but there was a very strong smell of cigarette smoke in many of them. When we got to our "non-smoking" room, we immediately smelled ingrained cigarette smoke. When we called to change our room, we were told that we were in a non-smoking room. However, the staff offered to move us. When we got to the second "non-smoking" room option, it was even worse so we just stayed where we were. However, the stale cigarette smoke was enough to make us select a different property when we came back through Istanbul. The other major thing that bothered me about the room was that the air conditioner was set so that it could not get cool in the room. So - the warm, stuffy room (which smelled of cigarettes) was no exactly ideal from a comfort perspective but it was certainly a good size. (If I'm being honest, the windows were filthy making the view of an otherwise dreary, industrial part of Istanbul that much drearier.)
The gym/spa facilities were excellent and the pool area quite beautiful (indoor) however the pool was very cold so we did not swim. There is no whirlpool/jacuzzi which was disappointing.
The breakfast (included in some room rates) was decent but not spectacular - and certainly overpriced if not included in the room rate but that's pretty standard for a hotel like this.
One more thing about the location - there is very little in the immediate neighborhood in terms of restaurants/shopping. The desk clerks told us that there were absolutely no malls/shopping within walking distance. We found this not to be true. There is a HUGE mall called "212" about 25-35 minutes away on foot or probably 10 minutes by taxi. We walked there during the day and walked back to the hotel at night with no issues. However, this hotel is not in a touristy area of the city and we found very few people who could assist us in English.
So - this hotel has a rounded (lens) shape meaning that the rooms on the OUTER curve are much larger...
