5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2010

I stayed in this hotel numerous times for work, in addition to a half dozen other hotels in the city. It is outstanding. It has everything, from a great restaurant, a great gym, a barber shop, etc. It even has an amazing on site tailor who sewed up a shirt of mine that seemed to be beyond repair. Its far from the city but perfect for business trips.

I am quite often in Istanbul for business purposes and the Ataköy Sheraton is on the short-list of the hotels that I stay at, especially when I have to take an early flight from Istanbul Atatürk Airport (hotel is only 10 minutes away). So the closeness to the airport is a big advantage, to avoid the faceless hotels around the airport. But for tourism-oriented travels -that are interested in the Sultanahmet or Taksim-area - the at least 25-minutes taxi ride downtown (sometime it can take over an hour) can be a major criterium against this hotel.

Being an SPG Platinum Preferred Member, I usually get an upgraded to an Executive suite. In this category the rooms are superb, in relative terms slightly above the usual SPG Sheraton standard. WIFI works perfectly in all areas and rarely I had problems with my IP-phone. Prices vary very much between low- and high season (usually between 100 - 220 EUR per night), so it you get a price around/below 150 EUR, I would consider it a good value deal .

Club lounge on last floor has only two computers but a nice view of the city and a good place to chill before dinner. Big outdoor swimming pool and spacious gym.

Sheraton Atatköy has two restaurants that serve creative international food. Plus, you have the renowned Gelik grill-restaurant within walking distance if you want to have a change. On the other hand, the breakfast could be improved, dislike the terrible cappuccino and also there is no Bircher muesli.

Picked this hotel because of its proximity to the airport, and the water views. Don't stay here if your plan is to sightsee in Istanbul, there are very good hotels downtown for that (Sirkeci Konak).
Major problem was a wedding being hosted by the pool the night we stayed there, staggering how noisy it was all the way up to the 24th floor, and this went on until after midnight, not ideal when you're tired after a long trip.
Rooms are very large and modern, and the view is amazing. Oddly enough, in a room that seemed so well laid out, there was no luggage rack or similar to put your suitcase.
Shuttle to the airport is intermittent, like none between 9 am and 2 pm, so we had to pay TL15 for a cab.
If you need to stay close to the airport, this is a good place to stay, barring any events being held by the pool. Otherwise find an hotel downtown.

The hotel is near the airport and shuttle service is also available...staff at the front office were extremely nice specially the bell boy Yusin, very helpful specially for a person first time visiting Istanbul, he could be a great guide who could schedule your vacation in avery nice way....room was spacious as well where you can see the sea from every corner....GYM and swimming pool , turksih bath were again another success ....I highly recommend the hotel and sure my second stay will be there.

An inconvenience to what seems to be its main business - hosting lucrative wedding parties - or block bookings for sports teams, etc.

Don't expect any sleep before 00:30 on summer nights, as the poolside wedding discos/live bands make most rooms untenable. Don't expect to be able to 'relax' by the pool either - as the setup for this starts mid-afternoon.

Don't expect not to sit six to a table with strangers at breakfast when the sports team or other block bookings are in town and the tables are all reserved.

This is not a hotel to stay at on business. They are not really serious about this type of guest. If you need to stay in that area, use the former Holiday Inn at Atakoy not far away. It is a bit careworn, but much cheaper - and you'll probably be able to sleep.

The Hotel was spacious. Location was simply amazing.. from my 15th floor sea facing room I could see swimming Pool , Yatch Hub and breathtaking Open Sea. Hotel provides all luxury of 5 star hotel. The Hotel property is HUGE and has sea front.. rooms spacious.. food quality was best ..specially the various sweets...Room service exuded warmth.. Lobby was one of the best I have seen across... Swimming Pool was temparature controlled.. Business centre efficient.. Over all the best 5 star experience that I so far had in Europe...

We were part of a group tour that was diverted to this hotel rather than the one in the Old City where we were supposed to be, and while the location was undesirable, the hotel itself was pleasant. The location is in the Atakoy area of Istanbul, closer to the airport than to the Old City, which is what most tourists go to Istanbul to experience. There is a shuttle, but its times of operation are limited and inconvenient. There is no public transportation in the area, so the only means to or from the Old City is a $13-$20 cab ride each way. The hotel overlooks the sea of Marmara, but a seaside view wasn't why we went to Istanbul. It is across the street from Istanbul's first modern shopping mall which is convenient for ATMs, bottled water and toiletries, and other items you might have forgotten.

Location aside, the hotel was a standard Sheraton resort type of property found anywhere in the US or around the world. The lobby was attractive and the staff was competent. There was security at the entrance of the hotel property and inside the hotel entrance. Our room was clean and comfortable and it had an updated, modern decor. While I was not surprised that free WiFi was not available in the room as that is an amenity that has not yet reached Europe, I thought the 19.95 EUR ($25) charge per day was an outrage.

By far the best feature was the breakfast buffet. There was probably the largest assortment of breads and pastries, fruits and vegetables, meats and cheeses, hot items (including the standard European runny scrambled eggs), made-to-order omelets, pancakes, waffles and French toast, cereals and yogurt, even dates, figs and Turkish delight that I have ever seen on a breakfast buffet.

This was a nice hotel, but one doesn't have to travel to Istanbul to stay at a generic Sheraton hotel. There is probably one near your home.
