We were just passing through Istanbul for a couple days, and so given our short time frame, we knew we'd be doing a lot of sight-seeing, and just wanted a hotel to drop our bags and rest our head at night.
Ida was exactly this.
At first however, they messed up our booking, when we clearly told them which nights we were coming, the guy on the phone confirmed our nights, then when we got there... we found out they booked the wrong nights. Our first night was OK, but we may have had to leave the next morning. This was really annoying, given we only had a couple days, and our days were planned to the fullest. I didn't want to waste my 2nd day running around Sultanahment with luggage, looking for alternate arrangements.
Because it was their fault, the manager was REALLY apologetic and he did the search work for another hotel for us. We left our bags in the room as directed, and when we got back from a full day, luckily they had one no-show booking, so our bags were moved to our new room. (Not sure why they couldn't have just left us in the same room). Our first room was at the very top (4th) floor - really nice sea view, really close to the wi-fi hub, so quite fast. The stairs coming up are narrow and circular AND steep. Not good to go up/down at night in the dark!
Location wise though, it's good for all the sights. It's a stones throw from Aya Sofia and Blue Mosque, as well as the tram route to hop on the train/tram. We even walked to Grand Bazaar from there, but if you're not young and upwardly mobile, you might not enjoy that.
The breakfast was nothing to write home about, basic as described in other reviews.
The first room we had was spotless. The 2nd room (on the 3rd floor) not so much. A little dusty and some water damage in the bathroom. Also no soap/shampoos so bring your own. Our 2nd room also didn't have a hair dryer (which was offered in the first room). I'm guessing their top floor is the nicest so they probably try to put everyone there for the best impression. Wi-fi was also really slow in the 2nd room (on the 3rd floor)
All in all, it's a good cheap place considering its location, and just a notch up from a hostel (at least your bathroom is private).
Previous poster is right - walls are EXTREMELY thin also... so whisper. And if you're a light sleeper, this will be an issue for you.
