“Great position”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2014

We stayed at the Ferman for two three day visits with a six day break between the two visits. The hotel is in a fabulous position, close to many restaurants. Two we could recommend are The Cozy Garden and Ala Des Amis. The staff are very helpful although we did have to ask three times for an additional blanket to be delivered. Staff at check in ( Sinan and Achmed) were very good. The downside to the Ferman was the breakfast - the butter was rancid, the toaster didn't work properly and I expect that some of the food is not refrigerated between breakfasts. (We did notice that butter was removed from the table by the time we left)

First visit to Istanbul and both of us loved it and were very impressed by the Ferman. Good value, clean, air-con that really WORKS, friendly staff (the manager Sinan was extremely professional, helpful, and gave good practical advice)... But we certainly did not get the impression of any staff favouring certain tour firms above others, though they did recommend eating further afield than just in the locale.

Breakfast probably a bit weak, but as others have said, typically Turkish. They do need a new toaster though, and the beer in the bar should be bottled not canned.

As for local restaurants we recommend The Cosy Garden, with very friendly staff, great atmosphere, and quite good food. (This might seem "damning with faint praise" but it was among the best food we had) A warning though... Avoid the "Akibye" Fish restaurant on the corner just above Cosy Garden. We got totally ripped off on the first night, tired, just off the plane, and they saw us coming. They charged us 475 Lira for a meal that should have been 200 or so. You live and learn.

We stayed at the ferman for 1 week during June, the location is amazing, honestly cannot be better at all, literally 3-10 min walking distance from everything and it's in a very safe area.

The service was also good, 1-3 employees really stood out as amazing, rest were okay.

Breakfast there absolutely sucked, old food, not fresh, super salty, minimal fruits, and their juice is not real juice it's just sugar juice. You can tell for sure they keep their old food and just re-heat it. However, it gets the job done, the amount of restaurants in the area is amazing, so you can eat amazing food all day.

The view from their terrace is very beautiful and overlooks the Bosphorus, and the blue mosque on the other side.

The hotel does a great job at helping out for tours and recommendations such as: hamams, tour guides, drives, etc.

Overall, safe, friendly, good location, but they are overpriced for their value.

Our room was good, bed was comfy, slightly old because it squeaked a lot. But it was beautiful and clean.

We were on the 3rd floor in the king sultan room, and you can constantly hear the kitchen, tables, chairs, and heels walking upstairs. During the night it's pretty quiet though.

If you like a smaller boutique hotel in a prime/safe area then this is a good hotel. If rooms were bigger, less noisy, and breakfast was good this would be the perfect hotel for sure.

We don't regret staying there :)

Their TV channel selection was limited, and no English channels save 1-2.

Staff extremely friendly and helpful.
We had a large room overlooking the Bosphoros on the 4 th floor. The view from the room and the roof terrace is by far one of the best views I ever had on our travels.
The breakfast was typical Turkish and of a basic standard . I would definitely return if I could have the same room.

Just come back from short break at the Ferman Hotel - fantastic time, hotel is in a great location, 5 mins walk from Blue Mosque, great view from roof terrace. Hotel staff really helpful and can advise and direct you anywhere. Great Value break, and I would definately stay there again. Staying this close to the Blue Mosque and in this boutique hotel beats big chain hotels in the built up city area!

My husband and I stayed here recently for 5 nights. Overall the location in the Old City made it easy for us to walk to all the sites and there's a cute street of restaurants, they are more touristy but convenient and lots of options.

Pros:
- Location in the Old CIty
- Clean, and they turn the rooms quickly
- Nice Staff

Cons:
- Not overly impressed with the rooms, they are just average
- Breakfast was lacking, we only ate it once and didn't enjoy it
- Staff overly sells specific tours/drivers, I recommend not even asking them for advice they will just steer you to wherever they get a kick back....it got really annoying when we would ask a question about the Ferry and they would try to sell us on another boat tour that wasn't going where we wanted to go

Tips:
- Don't stay here for the rooftop (like we did) every restaurant on the street has a roof top
- Also, all the hotels in this area look very similar, I image they are all about the same on the inside too so you can't go wrong
- Be sure to buy water at the mart, the water in the room is like a shot glass of water
- Face the Blue Mosque, we faced the water which first looked over a falling down house and trash
- Do your own research on tours (or you'll be paying a ton of money for a tour that you could have gotten half price on your own)
- If you want a fun night, walk to the Happy Hole, it's a short walk on Akbiyik street. They have a great playlist, hookah, drinks.
- Walk around & take the ferries to other areas!! They are quick and super cheap!

Room Tip: Mosque facing higher up room. Don't upgrade to the balcony room, it's just big enough to st...

Location is great for major attractions. Generous room size. Unfortunately there is an almost constant smell of smoke drifting into the room. Air conditioning doesn't work, light bulbs burned out and not replaced when requested, broken switches.
