“Great hotel; mediocre breakfast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

My husband and I stayed here for about a week. Let me start with the bad(ish). The breakfast was not good by American standards: It had Special K and Cocoa Puffs cereal, yogurt, cheese and olives (not good breakfast items), some pastries, runny eggs, hotdogs in what looked like spaghetti sauce, and cold french fries as "breakfast potatoes." We were less than impressed. The rooms don't block out outside noise at all, and our door to our balcony didn't lock, which wouldn't have mattered much but one night we came back to the hotel with the lobby trashed after "a crazy man who asked for cash trashed the place." I felt unsafe that night and considered switching hotels, but we stuck it out, and I'm glad we did. Obviously this was an isolated event and doesn't really reflect on the hotel or its staff. The rooms were very nice and clean, the front desk staff were very helpful, location was perfect (near the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia), and they offer a shuttle to and from the airport, which I recommend using because cab drivers rip you off. All in all, I would stay there again, though, if I ever am back in Istanbul.

If you want to stay in Sultanahmet, this is a great hotel choice. Close to everything in Sultanahmet, you can walk anywhere and its also a short 5 minute walk to the tram that takes you to the bridge.

We went in September with a group of 5 people and got in quite early, around 6:30am, so our room wasn't ready. The reception area has many couches, so the receptionist had no problem with us laying down on the couches while we waited for an appropriate time to wake our friends who had arrived the night before. At 8:00 we found one and went up to the rooftop for breakfast while we waited for the rest of our friends and our room.

The rooftop view is stunning, with a close view of the Blue Mosque and then the Aya Sofia is just a bit farther than that, but still close. From the other side, you have a panoramic view of the sea. Breakfast is included in the room price, and is sufficient. Cold breakfast only, but there is ample seating upstairs on the roof. The rooftop is also great for sunset drinks, or for viewing the mosques as they start to light up at night.

We had a sea view room and it was quite big. There was a balcony, although not necessary as the balcony wall was quite high. The view from the room was good enough, we didn't use the balcony at all. I saw a garden room, and although it was sufficient in size for one person, it was quite dark. I didn't like the shower.

The hotel staff was very nice. We had drinks on the rooftop late into the morning one of the 3 nights we were there, and the hotel staff was great with us. I'm sure we were up too late and should have been told to go to bed, but they got a kick out of it. Good for us, bad for the other guests. We were still up drinking while people were getting up for an early breakfast. Oops.

The hotel called us taxis to the airport on the day we were checking out and that went well. They were helpful.

I would recommend this hotel to others for the location and view, assuming you want to stay in Sultanahmet. I have been to Istanbul before and stayed both in Sultanahmet and Beyoglu side, and there are advantages to each.

Room Tip: we were upgraded to a room with a balcony, but we never used it. not worth the extra money because...

It has a great location near really important landmarks such as the Blue Mosque and TopKapi palace. Some of the rooms can improve. The service, as well, can be improved. Nonetheless the employees are very kind and the terrace has a beatiful view of the mosques and the Bosphorous.

Excellent hotel. It was a 5 minute walk to the Blue Mosque. Location could not have been better. The room was clean. The breakfast on the terrace was especially delightful with the view of the Blue Mosque and Haghia Sophia. The hotel staff was very accommodating.

I stayed at the ferman hotel the first wek of feb 2013. while it can be a bit challenging to find it, it is directly behind the blue mosque and less than 5 minutes from the aya sofia, blue mosque, basillica cistern. less than 15 minutes from the spice and grand bazaars. the staff is very knowledgable and deals with foreign tourists quite well. they helped book both my bosphorous cruise and my turkish bath (that's a different experience altogether!). I would stay with them again any time. the rooms were very clean and there was always tea in the room. the breakfast was simple but sufficient.

top marks

Room Tip: try staying in level 2 or 3

I've been many times to Istanbul , but i can say this was the best stay over . A very decent hotel with really helpful staff , the staff know how to speak English they were of a great help to us by giving us directions in Istanbul . The hotel's location is amazing 5 min to the tramway , a very clean area next to different cafes and restaurant . As for the rooms they are large and clean .

You will enjoy your stay trust me .

Room Tip: My room was 306 with a small balcony .
