“Opulence? No. Value for Money? Yes.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

A small, friendly, well-located, and well-run hotel in the heart of Sultanahmet. The room, while small, was not "tiny," and it lacked no essential amenities. Indeed, it was more than large enough to accommodate a double bed, a table, a chair, a desk, an armoir, and a night stand, with space to spare for baggage. The bathroom was of sufficient size, but one should not expect more than a shower stall, a sink, and a toilet (all modern, well-functioning, and impeccably clean). The staff, at least during my stay, was friendly and helpful, and even volunteered suggestions for restaurants, bars, and nightclubs, and staffers were pleased to negotiate taxi fares on our behalf. The (slightly expensive) pay-as-you-go internet connection and desk-to computer were sufficient for non-business related usage, but would be taxed (and your wallet emptied) by high-volume or long periods of connectivity. My only complaint is this: The continental breakast, included in my very reasonable room rate, was barely passable. However, given that Istanbul is full of excellent, fairly priced eateries, I'll not permit that failure to adversely affect my overall opinion of the hotel. In sum, if you are able to find an attractive rate at the Armagrandi Spina, and if you do not require large hotel business amenities, extravagant (or even enticing) buffet breakfast, room service, and luxury (though this place is, by all measures, very tastefully appointed), you really need look no further. The foregoing caveats in mind, I confidently recommend this place.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter, but everywhere in the hotel is conducive to rest.

First this hotel is in an amazing location smack next to the Blue mosque and Hagia Sofia in the lovely Sultanahmet area.
Taxi from the further away of 2 airports was TL150. The taxi tried to pretend he wasn't allowed to drive to this area but a lovely passing Turkish tour guide helped us tremendously and got him to take us (very begrudgingly!) to our proper destination.
We had a family adjoining room which was average size but nice to have us all together in one place. Clean rooms but very uncomfortable beds with lumpy springs!
They have a fantastic terrace with a spectacular view of the mosques. So why is breakfast served in a dingy room downstairs?
Good hotel if you just want somewhere reasonably priced to crash in a handy location.

This hotel is clean and comfortable. The real highlight for us was the location. Walking out through the restaurant, in 100m or so you will see theBlue Mosque to one side and Hagia Sofia on the other. It was incredibly convenient!

We loved Istambul and had a great stay at the Armagrandi Spina. The location couldn´t be better and the staff were extremely nice and friendly. Even though the news about Istambul that we are getting in Europe and accross the world, I can guarantee that Istambul is a perfectly safe and beautiful city with great people. I hope the news don´t stop anyone from going there since anyone can avoid and stay away from any kind of trouble and the city is perfectly save. I am a travel agent and I highly recommend Istambul and Turkey as a destination.

To cut a long story short...booked Hilton GI by mistake and found ourselves in real rough end of town so moved to Armageandi Spina as had rooms. Paid £750 for 2 nights but we were just pleased to be able to get last minute rooms away from Taksim square as it errupted in violence.
Bed sheets were clean but they couldn't manage an extra pillow, air conditioning worked. Everything else was grotty and broken, although there was plenty of hot water. Breakfast was sustenance. The porters were ok whilst they thought there was a chance they could push you into eating at the restaurants they got a cut from, otherwise generally off-hand, to the extent they forgot to mention the roof top terrace! Location is really great. Nice area and 2 minutes from Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia. 3 years ago we stayed in the nearby Sirkeci Konak Hotel which is in a different league altogether, though similar style (area not quite so nice but almost as handy).
If you're looking for a place to doss down on a quick trip to see the main sites, it will do you just fine. If you are looking for luxury, go elsewhere.
Don't get me wrong, we were very glad of it, but is probably only a 2/3 star, and if that's what you're looking for it's fine.

We booked a "superior" room for 10 nights after looking at the online photos and reading the reviews here. However we got the regular room instead when arrived late at night. The room was very small with essentially no drapes. Light came through as soon as the sun rose waking us up. Even though the street is not too busy, but even a little bit of street noise will wake you up. Next day we got our "superior" room hoping it would be better, but got disappointed again. The noise and light problem remained. They gave us bed sheets to put on the windows!! While I was trying to put the sheet on the window, the curtain rod came off the hook. The toilet flush was broken and they tried to fix it "three" times without success. The shower is so small you can barely move. I am only 70 kg, 5'8" guy, imagine how it would be to a bigger person ! The only good thing about this room was the balcony and the view of the blue mosque. The breakfast was not good at all. Those reviewers who liked the breakfast don't really know how it is supposed to be in Istanbul.
We figured it would be very hard to stay the remaining eight nights so we decided to check out. Initially the manager was not willing to let us checkout early but finally he agreed. We stayed at a nearby hotel (Antea) for the remaining eight nights which was so much better at the same price.
The front desk staff is pleasant, but you will find nice staff almost every place you go in Turkey.

Room Tip: Don't stay at this hotel... Period!
