“Interesting turkish recipes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

Overall good food with prices that are not excessive. We were glad we chose lamb dish based on a 17th century palace recipe which was both interesting and very good

“Modern but traditional!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 28, 2014

I had lunch here, and staff were inviting and friendly (not pushy like a lot of other places you will find in Istanbul). It has a trendy but relaxed ambiance with traditional Turkish food served with a modern take. I would return here to eat again as the food tasted great and the portion sizes were just right and not stingy ! I recommend this place.

“Very enjoyable evening, good food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2014

We were recommended Amedros by our hotel and it lived up to its billing. A lovely table on the street in the middle of the action, a fantastic cold beer (hard to find during Ramadan), delectable food and great friendly smiling service. What more can you ask for?

“Fabulous Turkish Food, Wonderful Dining Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2014

I selected Amedros based on its review in the Rough Guide to Istanbul, and its proximity to my hotel (5 minutes walk). My dinner/evening there was so enjoyable, I decided to return again the following night!

Take a look at their website, www.amedroscafe.com , it has lots of good pictures and complete menus (except for desserts?, which were also exceptional).

The staff there was most attentive, but were never in your face at the wrong time (as is so often the case dining out in the states, where you will be asked "how is everything?" 30 seconds after your food has arrived). That said, they are very friendly and helpful. Though the wait staff generally functions as a team, and all were excellent, you might ask for Yilmaz if things aren't too busy -- he and others of the staff greeted me on my return visit, and seated me at my same (excellent) table!

The food is absolutely delicious, beautifully seasoned, clearly made from the freshest and finest ingredients, and is served attractively and unpretentiously. Portions were quite generous, if you are not ravenous you could certainly dine there on just an appetizer, though I had an appetizer, a main, and a dessert both nights.

The Mixed Meze Plate is a good jumping off place, accompanied with a local draft (Efes), or, for the more adventurous, a raki. Amedros has the most delicious raki I have ever tasted -- it isn't the usual Yeni raki one sees everywhere. Rather, it's Beylerbeyi (means "Lord of Lords", named for Sultan Abdülaziz's summer palace), a smooth and refined drink, though still a bit spicier than ouzo. I also recommend the marinated octopus salad appetizer, the Sword[fish] Şiş entrée, and the Harem Special (pieces of lamb with walnuts, fresh pomegrante sauce, thyme and spring onions, served with rice.) For dessert, try the stewed figs with walnuts and ice cream, or the chocolate soufflé.

Note that, though I've rated this as $$$, because it's both casual *and* elegant, it was also quite affordable. I had appetizer, main & dessert, plus 2 drinks, and paid ~120TL the first night and ~100TL the second night. Excluding the drinks, this is an average of 85TL (roughly $40) for a fabulous meal -- and you could certainly dine very pleasantly here for a lot less if you had just one plate (and not go away hungry).

The restaurant does take reservations (see their website), but I simply showed up at 9:30pm and had no trouble getting an excellent table.
