“Good location for sightseeing, otherwise ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

I was relocated to this hotel by BA Holidays due to concerns about the original hotel.

I stayed four nights with a friend. The hotel had confirmed a twin bedded room by direct e-mail, but we were shown to a small room where the beds had not been separated. The staff were helpful in moving the beds apart and remaking them as singles more or less straight away once the issue was brought to their attention.

The room we were allocated was small, even as a double, but smaller still when converted.

Although decorated in a nice older style, the shelf above the bathroom sink tilted forward, so items sometimes slid from it. And unfortunately there was also mould/mildew in the skirting around the base of the shower (not sure why wood would be used in a shower anyway unless fully treated and sealed?).

Reception staff were helpful on the rare occasion that they were needed.

If you're visiting Istanbul for the first time, the hotel is in a very good location minutes' walk from the Topkapi Palace, Archaeological Museum and Mosaiv Museum, the Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque, as well as a short walk from a joint rail/tram stop and the Eminönü harbour area in front of the Galata Bridge, therefore also making Taksim Square and other sites, plus the Asian side of the city, very accessible. But it's not great for restaurants and bars as the area is a little more 'conservative' than the Taksim side, where the majority of the nightlife takes place.

Generally ok, and given the price we paid for the entire package (under £200 p.p. Inc. BA direct flights), no complaints as such. But the showers definitely need to be checked for and cleared of all mould, as this is unhealthy once it gets into the air.

Room Tip: Didn't see any other rooms, but hotel is small so other rooms may seem equally small.

This place tried to rip us off twice! We were staying at another hotel, Hotel Saba, very close to this one. We loved the original hotel so we wanted to rebook it. Using the app hotels.com I went online, when I did the search Hotel Evsen came up has half the price, but with comparable amenities. Of course we wanted to save some money, after some discussion we decided to book Hotel Evsen and walk over as it wasn't that far. From the moment we booked to the time we walked over approx 30-35min had passed. When we told the front desk person about the reservation, he said he just cancelled it due to the fact someone else took that cheap room "first come, first serve", even though I had a confirmation number...he didn't care. He did however have the same room at more than TRIPLED the original cost! We argued and argued with no results. I told him I could see the room on Hotels.com for lower than he was telling us and that I would book on there and take the room, he said he "would just cancel it again". Desperate for a place to stay as it was getting late, we reluctantly decided to pay for the room, but wanted to see it first. The front desk called the porter and the porter showed us the windowless jail cell they called a room. I guess the front desk clerk didn't hear us coming, when we got back to the lobby I saw him trying to LOOT through our bags!!! Terrible terrible terrible!! I'm a pretty large man, so the guy was intimated and returned my belongings after some arguing. I can only imagine what would have happened if I wasn't able to defend myself or if the guy thought he could overpower me.

I don't want to ask more to an hotel that i have chosen mainly because of the position. Really close to the hippodrome, that was the center of the ancient Roman city. if you find some place where you pay less and you get a five stars treatment, please let me know. Try it and tell me afterwards.

The hotel is conveniently located in the historic Sultanahmet district, therefore very close to Hayya Sophia, the Blue Mosque etc. Our rooms were spotless clean, the same with bathrooms. The hotel seems to have been recently decorated. Staff is very helpful and kind. Breakfast was great. Quite unbelievably, it offers very good service and is cheap! A small piece of advice: when you book it, make sure that your room has a window, as apparently some are without. Enjoy your stay!
