This place was great! Great food! Great service! Our hotel recommended it and we couldn’t be happier. They told us it would be pricey – around 50 euro per person was the estimate. It came out to just under 700 TL (~58 euro per person) for 4 people, including 3 appetizers, entrée, desert, Roki (Turkish liquor) and gratuity, and we got a couple free add-ons as well.
Like other restaurants in Istanbul we’d been to, the meal started with the waiter bringing a large tray of the cold appetizers for us to choose from. When we started asking about some hot plates we’d seen on the menu, the waiter realized we had no interest in the cold plates and asked if he could send them away and discuss the hot options instead. No pressure at all. We started asking questions about the different fresh fish offerings and the waiter offered to take us to the display to actually look at the fish while he described them to us - an offer we gladly accepted.
We started out with three hot appetizers - the fried calamari, the grilled octopus, and the shrimp. All were fantastic. The calamari was thick and tender. And the octopus stood out for sure. It was the best I’ve ever had and even converted a prior octopus hater in our group.
Then came the sea bass, baked under a salt dome, and lit on fire at our table. It was a very entertaining presentation for what would turn out to be an already excellent dish.
The desert was good too. As with the previous selections, we trusted the waiter’s recommendation and were soon presented with an array of fresh fruits to go with some kind of candied desert. After desert the waiter came to take our coffee and tea order, but it was late and we didn't want the caffeine, so we declined. He returned to the table a few minutes later with non-caffeinated apple tea, and an extra desert called “The Bomb” – a chocolaty bomb for sure. We had some fruit left over from the previous desert, which went very well with the melted chocolate at the center of this selection.
The staff was very courteous, attentive, and friendly all night. We tried to tip and the waiter, who very quickly refused and pointed out the included gratuity. I would definitely come back on a future visit.
