“Avoid if you want security, comfort, cleanliness”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

The first off-putting detail is that all of the guests passports are kept out in the open. A person could easily lean over the front desk, often unattended, and pluck them from the wall behind it. This fact had us on edge the entire time. There was nothing we could do about it as we were with a tour group, otherwise we would have left. The front desk staff was unfriendly and uninterested in answering our questions. Our room looked over the street and we could hear all noise from cars honking, trams and sirens, as a hospital was just down the street aways. We could open our window just a crack. Air conditioning worked (barely), only if they decided you needed it. I woke in the middle of the night suffocating, no air flow/no a/c. The carpets were filthy; looked like syrup had spilled all over it. The bathroom was unclean and trash was still in the can. Don't count on a wakeup call, you won't get it. The restaurant staff was very nice. The food was so-so. I liked the cucumbers, tomatoes, other salad items and watermelon, but it was hard to get into it went the hotel was so dirty.

Room Tip: If you have no other choice, ask for a room in back; it may be a bit quieter.

I stayed in Kaya Hotel for 4 nights. it was really well-located hotel for someone who gets around by tram, because tramway station is located just in front of hotel. there are many Turkish restaurant and coffee which you can enjoy them if you like traditional modes of life. However, the hotel is only a 3star hotel and other its facilities are average. The ground of the room is not clean but other furniture and bathroom are ok.

you have some options for breakfast and it is suitable for a 3 star hotel in Istanbul.

Receptionists are really helpful and you can ask any question about historical places, ways, restaurant, exchange and so on but other staff can not speak English very well.

The price is good, specially if you travel on a tour.

We stayed in this hotel since it was booked by Papiro Tours as part of a tour purchase via Muchoviaje and Rumbo.es... They advertise another hotel (that looks nicer) and they used this one (apparently they always do...).

The location is good because it's near a tram station but you could find a hotel that is closer to the city center.

Cleanliness has to be improved. Our bathroom was dirty, we found hairs and stains in the towels. The trash was filled with previous garbage.

Our shower was broken and if you are tall you will hit the ceiling while showering. There was a hole in the bathroom ceiling and you could hear everything that happened in the next door bathroom.

The room was always hot. We tried everything but it kept on being hot. If you open the window, outside is terribly noisy.

Breakfast is terrible.... I don't understand why reviews say there are a lot of options and that it is perfect. There is old bread and things to put in it. Juices are undrinkable.

Wifi is included but we had two problems, the signal in the room was impossible and the last day before the check out (11am) they had cancelled our access (7am).

The staff wasn't nice. There was only one who could speak english.

there are bus station and train station right in front of hotel. the break fast was ok , price is fair. the rooms are not so clean but the bathroom is clean.
it it fair for the cost you paid.
it is good for Iranian people because the receptionist knows persian completely.

Kaya hotel was in a very good location, straight opposite the trams to all the main sites.
However, as it was right in town it was very noisy!
The rooms were pretty standard however our room smelt like smoke and didn't seem as though it had been vacuumed.
Breakfast was very good with lots of options.

an ok hotel... just. On a main noisy busy street (tooting horns, sirens, tram bells) with a tired air about the place. We were on the 4th floor facing the main street. The only benefit of this place is that you are right on the tram route, except that's not a benefit coz the trams just add to the noise! Not much around the hotel that's worth being here for either with very average eateries. Find somewhere else closer to the old town that's plain quieter so you can enjoy your experience of Istanbul so much more. Wireless was patchy and kept dropping out on the laptop. Also, sometimes it would let my iPad join, and other times it just plain refused. Frustrating. No air con that I could see so thankfully we didn't need it.
